RIM / Amazon Partnership

At least a couple of times now I have mentioned on the SMRpodcast that Research in Motion should partner with Amazon to bring their ecosystem to the BlackBerry PlayBook and RIM’s next-generation BlackaBerry 10  operating system.

Here is a short list of 5 reasons why…

Post image for Amazon looked into buying RIM last summer, but, RIM wasn’t interested…

Word on the street is that Amazon was interested in buying Research in Motion last summer and even hired an investment bank to review a potential merger, but, never got to the point of making a formal offer because RIM’s management did not want to sell or break up the company.

(Reuters) – Research In Motion Ltd has turned down takeover overtures from Amazon.com Inc and other potential buyers because the BlackBerry maker prefers to fix its problems on its own, according to people with knowledge of the situation.

All Verizon phones on sale for a penny at Amazon Wireless

We just heard that all Verizon phones, including the BlackBerry Bold 9930, are on sale at Amazon Wireless for $0.01 until October 17th.  You won’t see any better deals than this so if there is Verizon phone, less the iPhone 4 or 4S, that you’ve had your eye on, now’s the time to get it.

BlackBerry PlayBook

Last week rumors that RIM was planning on getting out of the tablet game and discontinuing production of the BlackBerry PlayBook spread like wild fire, and, even though RIM put out a statement calling the rumors “pure fiction” and that the company “remains highly committed to the tablet market”, it’s not really all that difficult to understand why the rumors seemed so plausible…

Kindle Fire

Research in Motion’s first stab at a tablet device, the BlackBerry PlayBook, isn’t really doing all that well.  The hardware is pretty good, but, the software has been weighed, measured, and found wanting.  We’ve seen pricing on the PlayBook drop 40% to 50% and even more in some cases, and, although RIM is calling the decrease in price special discounting to improve sell through (it’s all semantics as far as consumers are concerned), the PlayBook today will cost you significantly less than it did a couple of weeks ago.

Post image for Get An OEM Replacement BlackBerry Wired Headset For Under $3.00… Shipping Included

We just saw a great deal on Amazon.com where you can get an OEM 3.5mm Stero Wired Headset for BlackBerry for just $2.90, shipping included.  If I had to venture I’d bet that the BlackBerry accessory that most BlackBerry users have lost  are the set of wired headsets that came with the device.  Personally, I have lost or broken 3 or 4 pair myself.  This is one heck of a deal seeing how these things usually cost 10 bucks or more.

Check out the OEM 3.5 mm Stereo Headset for BlackBerry for just $2.90

Amazon Kindle for BlackBerry

It’s been almost a year since Amazon introduced Kindle for BlackBerry and they’ve finally released an update.  Not sure what all version 1.0.2.1 fixes, however, it does add support for more BlackBerry devices which BlackBerry owners have been clamoring for since it first came out.

Kindle for BlackBerry isn’t a replacement for the Kindle, but, is a great alternative when you are in a place where reading my help pass the time, but, your Kindle is not handy.

Kindle for BlackBerry is a free download and you can pick it up by heading to http://amazon.com/kindlebb from your device.

If you are thinking about picking up the new AT&T BlackBerry Torch, Amazon.com is the place that you’ll want to get it from.  Even though the device has been on sale for less than a week, Amazon is offering the BlackBerry Torch 9800 for just $99 on a new two-year activation.  That is half

Amazon BlackBerry

We just heard a very interesting stat where Amazon CEO, Jeff Bezos, said that Amazon does over $1 billion in sales from mobile devices per year, most of which comes by way of smartphones.

The leading mobile commerce device today is the smartphone, but we’re excited by the potential of the new category of wireless tablet computers. Over time, tablet computers could become a meaningful additional driver for our business.

It’s mind boggling to think that the smartphone market is only 6% to 8% saturated.
