NTP will settle for 5.7% of Research in Motion’s Future Revenue

According to the WallStreet Journal, NTP will settle with BlackBerry maker Research in Motion for 5.7% of future U.S. based BlackBerry revenue through the year 2012. Talk about getting hit in the pocketbook. Such a settlement will reach into the billions of dollars and RIM may not have a choice with a U.S. based shutdown looming.

Last quarter RIM made almost $500 million. Mobile wireless email is really just starting to take of so it is safe to assume that there will be a nice steady increase in quarter over quarter revenues for at least the next several years.
