Microsoft Exchange patch could adversely impact BlackBerry users

Microsoft is about to release a patch for Exchange that could adversely impact some BlackBerry users. “The Exchange patch will tighten the application’s default email settings, making it harder for users to send messages from mail boxes that are not theirs.

Many BlackBerry users that send email via BlackBerry Internet Service (BIS) uses a different ‘From’ address than the one used on the BlackBerry that actually sends and receives email. This Microsoft Exchange patch is designed specifically to limit email address spoofing, a common tactic used by email spammers.

The conspiracy theorist in me isn’t surprised that Microsoft would alter their software to make it harder to work with the competition.

Maybe I’m too cynical…maybe I watch too much “24″…!
