Is BlackBerry Messenger Down?

by Robb Dunewood on February 12, 2009 · 9 comments

I have gotten a bunch of Tweets from BlackBerry users accross all carriers saying that BlackBerry Messenger is down and that they cannot send PIN to PIN messages.

Is RIM having yet another outage?

It isn’t down for Verizon Wireless.

What is up? RIM has the unique system which by and large they control and could make things much more mission critical and reliable, and benefit from that big time. I’m not sure if priorities are being taken care of as they should. We still haven’t been told what happened to cause the last recent outage, and what is being done to solve that issue.

Internet service is down right now, at least on Verizon. PINs were slow today as well.

And the second I post it, Internet service is back up.

yeah my BBM went out on my Verizon 8130 yesterday for a few hours. Then later last night I lost data connectivity for about an hour (despite battery pulls, resending service books, registering with the HRT again, etc…)

but this morning I noticed BBM is running MUCH better than it used to. I’m getting “D’s” a lot quicker than I used to, etc… Did they maybe upgrade something server side?

We might never know as RIM is less than helpful and forthcoming in alerting and explaining the many outages.
