Waze Worldcup

Waze, the free social media application currently in beta on the BlackBerry is holding their own international Worldcup competition where three users from the country that wins will be given an iPad.

The Waze Worldcup is all about munching soccer ball road goodies for the win. And similar to the FIFA structure, you guys will be competing on behalf of your country, tournament-style, in different phases of the game. All countries will be eligible to participate (currently we have wazers in over 100 countries!), and on June 11, along with the regular Worldcup, we’ll get set this thing off. Soccer ball road goodies will be distributed all over the map and the countries that munch the most soccer ball road goodies will be the ones to make it to the next round.

The Waze Worldcup starts tomorrow, so, install Waze for BlackBerry Beta to your device, and start finding soccer ball goodies…

LinkedIn for BlackBerry

One of the most highly anticipated BlackBerry application releases earlier this year was LinkedIn for BlackBerry.  Unfortunately for BlackBerry Storm and BlackBerry Pearl users, LinkedIn for BlackBerry, when initially released back in March of this year, was not available on those particular devices.  LinkedIn for BlackBerry has been updated to version 1.1, and, needless to say, now has support for the BlackBerry Storm and the BlackBerry Curve…

Linkedin for BlackBerry 1.1 features include:

  • Added support for BlackBerry Storm and BlackBerry Pearl
  • Enhanced profile updates
  • Improved font support
  • Improved Contacts integration

You can pick up LinkedIn for BlackBerry over on BlackBerry App World or download it OTA directly to your device at the link below.

uZard Web

When it comes to 3rd party web browsers for the BlackBerry, Bolt and Opera Mini aren’t the only options.   We just caught wind of a new BlackBerry browser from Logicplant called uZard Web, and word on the street says it shows promise.  uZard Web is currently in beta, however, it’s website says it delivers the same web browsing experience as on a PC.  Even though the uZard Web download page says its for the BlackBerry Bold 9000, multiple devices are currently support, although the app is pretty useless (from my experience) on the BlackBerry Storm.  If you’d like to give uZard Web a go for yourself you can download it from the link below…

Microsoft Tag

This isn’t the first time that we’ve talked about Microsoft Tag, however, the last time we did, MS Tag Reader for BlackBerry was still in beta.  Yesterday on the Official Microsoft Blog, Aaron Getz, General Manger of Microsoft Tag announced that Microsoft’s mobile barcode technology has come out of beta.

Today, I am thrilled to announce Tag is coming out of beta and that basic use of Tags will be free of charge. This specifically means you will be able to generate and use Tags that link to our standard scenarios and use the reader application at no cost. By simply going to Tag.Microsoft.com, you can create Tags and deliver rich interactive experiences on mobile phones, track your Tags and read about how companies like Conde Nast and others are using Tag.
