BlackBerry Podcasts, which has been available to BlackBerry Beta Zone users for quite some time, has been officially released is is now available to all in BlackBerry App World.  I have to be honest, I am not terribly impressed with the BlackBerry Podcasts app, however, it is free and it can only get better from here.  For me, BlackBerry Podcasts won’t be replacing PodTrapper any time soon.

You can download BlackBerry Podcasts directly from BlackBerry App World, and, if you do, be sure to download the Simple Mobile Review Podcast.

To download the SMRpodcast in BlackBerry Podcasts,  click on “Add Podcast Channel” and type in the SMRpodcast feed URL, http://feeds.feedburner.com/simplemobilereviewpodcast.

Dropbox for BlackBerry

Dropbox, a file synchronization and sharing application that allows you to install on multiple computers and many smartphones, has gone into a limited beta on the BlackBerry.  Unfortunately, the Dropbox for BlackBerry beta is currently closed to new participants, however, I am hoping that they open it up to more beta tester or that the software is soon to be released to the masses.

I personally use Dropbox and am pleased and excited that Dropbox for BlackBerry is on the horizon.  It is currently installed on every one of my computers and my Droid Incredible.  Even the the Dropbox for BlackBerry beta is currently closed, I recommend that anyone who doesn’t already use Dropbox, give Dropbox a try.

face2face

I just installed face2face, a cross platform, location aware, social networking client from Promimate Global that combines Facebook, LinkedIn, and Twitter networks into a single client as well as ads consolidated chat between face2face users, on my BlackBerry, and, although I’ve only played around with it for about 5 minutes, it seems to be a pretty slick app thus far.

face2face is a location-aware smartphone app that solves the problems of privacy and safety that have become synonymous with social networking – so that more people can benefit from the advantages that come from knowing which friends are nearby.

Xobni for BlackBerry beta

I know that just before Xobni was officially released, I gave it a little flack about taking so long to come out, however, since it has, it arguably has become one of, if not the most used 3rd party BlackBerry applications on my device.  A new beta version of Xobni for BlackBerry has  recently been released which  includes LinkedIn integration allowing you to view profile information from a contacts LinkedIn account directly from within Xobni.

Slacker listeners now have access to a dedicated news station covering national, world, sports, politics, entertainment, business and tech as well as the option to include headline news for top of the hour updates on any Slacker Radio station.

Slacker listeners have access to reporting and in-depth audio coverage on the ABC News station from a team of ABC News anchors and correspondents, including Diane Sawyer and George Stephanopoulos. The ABC News station also features segments from ABC News programs, including “Good Morning America” anchored by Robin Roberts, George Stephanopoulos, Juju Chang and Sam Champion, “Nightline” anchored by Terry Moran, Cynthia McFadden and Martin Bashir and much more.

“ABC News is excited to provide Slacker listeners with award-winning audio news content,” said Steve Jones, vice president and general manager, ABC News Radio. “Slacker offers their audience immense flexibility to enjoy custom content anywhere: in the car, on their phones, at home, and we are happy to provide the full range of ABC News coverage to the Slacker Radio experience.”

In addition to featuring top news stories, the ABC News station will enable Slacker listeners to create a more personalized experience by selecting specific stories they want to hear, similar to the song skipping on music stations. Listeners to the free Slacker Basic Radio service will be able to try the ABC News service for up to 14 days risk-free, while Slacker Radio Plus subscribers will have unlimited access to the ABC News station and headline news updates.

“Slacker is the first to offer listeners access to such a wide range of customizable audio content – from millions of songs across custom and expertly crafted music stations, to comedy and now ABC News,” said Jonathan Sasse, senior vice president of marketing at Slacker. “Our listeners have been excited about the prospect of accessing news in our service and we are pleased to be offering them premium content from one of the most respectable brands in a truly innovative way.”

Slacker Personal Radio, available online at www.Slacker.com, enables listeners to create their own Personal Radio stations based on any artist or mix of artists, or listen to and personalize over 120 expert-programmed genre stations ranging from Alternative Rock to Comedy and everything in between. Personalization options include rating songs or artists, playing more popular vs. more eclectic music and listening to newer vs. classic songs.

Whether listening on the web, BlackBerry smartphone, iPhone, iPod touch, Android-powered smartphone, iPod touch, Slacker-enabled SONY TV or Blu-ray player or any of the hundreds of products where Slacker is available, Slacker listeners now have instant access to ABC News along with their favorite music, artist profiles, album reviews, album cover art and more.
