BlackBerry Storm May Not Ship Until Dec. 5th

by Robb Dunewood on November 21, 2008 · 16 comments

So, after being down pretty much all day, the BlackBerry Storm order page now has a disclamer stating:

Due to limited availability of the BlackBerry® Storm™ 9530 smartphone, orders will ship by 12/5.

Don’t you just love the fine print?

Wow, I just placed my order and it did not say anything about that. If they come back and tell me that, and I am not quite certain I will, I will just cancel my order.

Does this mean that Best Buy Won’t have any in stock Sunday?

What a mess…poorly handled. Instead of taking a beating on delaying the device another time, they’d rather toss whatever they have out there and take the beating for not having enough of them on hand.

All I can do is be optimistic. Got my order in real early and no issues with the system at the store…who knows. It’s a phone, so I’m not going to get all twisted. Reality has slowly crept in during the course of the day.

Supposedly I’m going to get called by Best Buy tomorrow to come buy a phone with an early shipment but I’m quite skeptical after they sold out at Verizon 1st thing this morn.

My order status says,”Your order has been processed. You should receive your order within 2 – 3 business days.” We shall see. If they delay the shipping until 12/5 I will just cancel it.

It’s true, December 15 is the date after speaking with a rep. I checked on my order and will receive it on Monday. Also, word is VZW will have an OTA update very soon to fix some issues.

Hi there. I have ordered one in Vodafone Spain and same case. I have talked to them today and told me they don’t have stock right now. I have ordered 10 days ago.

I ordered my Storm early afternoon on 11/21 (the release date) They told me it would ship out on 11/25….and I would have it 11/28. I called to get the tracking number today (11/26) and now they are telling me it will be 12/5 before it even ships!!! WTF

That was his theory…RIM responded, debunking it. Personally, I don’t believe them, but it’s posted none the less.

Yeah….but it does make sense. What does RIM say? I know it could not be because they did not make enough. It has to be something thats holding it up…………

BGR posted a follow up to his theory (see part 2 on his site), which is where Gizmodo is getting the info. The follow up he posted is the actual statement from BGR, as they quote his original post. While they deny it, and gave an explanation, I personally don’t buy it. It’s one of the few times I’ll actually agree with BG. There was certainly disorder in the process between RIMM and VZW. VZW had too much at stake not to release the devices before Black Friday, especially with the marketing campaign they delivered.

Yeah. Thats what happens when things arent planned out in its entirety. Someone dropped the ball on this…and everyone has to pay for it
