BlackBerry Media Sync Now Available: Sync iTunes To Your BlackBerry

by Robb Dunewood on June 22, 2008 · 16 comments

I would venture to bet that Research in Motion will be launching BlackBerry Media Sync, the free utility that will allow you to sync your non-DRM protected iTunes media to your BlackBerry, very soon, seeing how it is available for download online.

I am not sure how official this is, however, you can download BlackBerry Media Sync from http://download-mustang.rim.edgesuite.net/autoupdates/MediaSync/108_120608/BlackBerryMediaSyncDM.exe. RIM is hosting BlackBerry Media Sync on Akamai’s Edgesuite servers for rapid deployment.

Thanks for the link. But I installed it and it told me to install iTunes and restart the app. iTunes IS, of course, installed. hmmm…methinks it ain’t completely official just yet…

I don’t think sync is the right term here. How many people will be able to sync their non-DRMed iTunes music files to a Blackberry that is unlikely to have more than 4GB or so. I would use the term, selectively copy. Sync implies that you have all files in iTunes on your BB which is extremely unlikely to be the case.

Has anyone gotten this thing to actually work?
It see’s my BB and my iTunes playlists, but won’t let me select any of them.
They are all grayed out.

This works if your iTunes libaray is on your local drive. However, mine is on an external usb drive, and the program doesn’t recognize that iTunes is installed.

I tried to install but it told me I needed 2GB hard drive available, which I didn’t have on my virtual machine. Is this true? If so, this is a joke. 2GB? Is this an entire OS? WTF!!!! As much as I love RIM for the Blackberry, this shows me they are way behind in writing software. (if true)

I would have thought this would be a relatively small utility that just reads the XML file from iTunes, then knows based on that where the songs are stored, and syncs them based on what you choose. Please tell me this 2GB requirement isn’t true!

Downloaded this 2 nights ago and did not have any problems and synced perfect. I do have 2gb card where I store music. No problems yet but I have found out that keeping feeds from Crackberry up a lot catches these downloads when they first come out and working.

I downloaded this program, set up a playlist to sync with my Pearl. Used the to sync, which it appeared to do, going through a 10 minute process. At the end, it did not sync anything, telling me it couldn’t because of digital rights……

Frustrating.
