BlackBerry HS-655 Bluetooth Headset

It looks like the BlackBerry Pearl isn’t the only new gadget that Research in Motion is unveiling today. Under the Accessories section of the BlackBerry Pearl website, you will see a sweet looking little earpiece called the BlackBerry HS-655 Bluetooth Headset

From what we can tell, the BlackBerry HS-655 Bluetooth Headset which features Digital Signal Processing or (DSP) technology from Plantronics, is actually a BlackBerry branded and color-schemed version of the Plantronics Discovery 655 Bluetooth Headset.

I personally use the Plantronics Discovery 645 and love it so would think that if the 655 works as well as my 645 does for me, that the BlackBerry version, the HS-655, will be a heck of a headset. It is very small and light weight at only 9 grams and fits comfortably in your ear with or without the earclip. It also has three different size ear gels to make sure the fit is just right.

I was going to upgrade to the Discovery 655 but know that I know that RIM has a BlackBerry branded version, I will try to get a BlackBerry HS-655

It looks like that this did not go on sale as planned. The page on the BlackBerry site stated that the product would go on sale on 9/21. However, on the evening of 9/20 that was replaced with a message that the item was temporarily out of stock.

Interesting, out of stock before it is available. Why can’t they just admit that they didn’t have it ready?

Update: Now the site says that the headset will be available October 6.

I have the new Plantronics Discovery 655 paired with my 7130e and after trying 4 other BT headsets I finally found one that I really like. If the Blackberry branded HS-655 is indeed the same thing – you won’t be disappointed… but I would consider picking up the Discovery as you can find them in the $70 range from online discounters and aution sites.

That is a good point DanO,

You will definitely pay a premium for getting that little BlackBerry logo on this thing.

10/29 now.

Your grammar and punctuation are reprehensible.

Blame it on Word… go on.

11/6 now. After 2 months of this thing slipping a week every week, I’m starting to lose interest. I know it will be released as soon as I buy something else though…

Is the Plantronics identical to this one? I’d heard that BB was doing some special tweaks to enhance performance, but not sure if that’s true. Anyone in the know?

I feel you pain Mj. I think that I am going go the route that DanO went and get a Plantronics 655. I broke the earclip on my 645 and want something new.

They’ve got them for sale at the Blackberry site store now. Not sure if they actually have them, but the order button is now active…

WTF? Ordered one last night with 2-day shipping, today the site says out of stock until 11/30. I hope I got lucky…

I ordered on in that 24 hour period that it was orderable. It arrived with no documentation. I also received an unordered charger in a separate shipment (weird).

The product arrived without documentation. There are only a coupl of support FAQs on the web site and a draft of a manual that is sparse at best.

The key feature driving my purchase was voice activated dialing. However, this requires v4.2 of the firmware, which does not appear to be available – certainly not to enterprise customers.

The headset seems to be a nice headset and does fit my ear well – even without the ear stabilizer. But, without the voice activated dialing it wasn’t worth the $135.

One minor gripe. When I take it out of my ear I have been placing it into the pocket clip. But, it appears to lose its pairing quickly when that happenes. So, if I am driving down the road and the phone rings it isn’t very convenient that I have to re-pair it before I can answer. I might as well use the handset.

BTW, the web site now says 12/1 availability.

Blackberry Bluetooth HS-655… sound is awesome BUT… biggest complaint – it falls apart easily! The earpiece and earhook falls off even while wearing it!!
