BlackBerry Desktop Manager for Mac

The day that many BlackBerry users that also use a Mac have been waiting for is almost here.  Research in Motion is releasing BlackBerry Desktop Software for Mac in September.

With BlackBerry® Desktop Software you’ll be able sync your iTunes® playlists and personal information like contacts, tasks and appointments; install new software, games, and more. BlackBerry Desktop Software will offer the best of both worlds by allowing you to manage aspects of your BlackBerry® smartphone from your Mac.

I can think of no good reason, especially with the number of BlackBerry users that also us a Mac, why RIM has taken so long to come out with a Mac version of  BlackBerry Desktop Manger.  Granted, PocketMac for BlackBerry is, and, continues to be free for some time, it just isn’t the same thing.

If you would like to register to be notified as soon as BlackBerry Desktop Software for Mac is released you can do so here

I will believe it when I see it. It HAS to be the equivalent of the desktop manager that PC users have had for years. Otherwise it is as useless as PocketMac or the Missing Sync.

RIM is finally doing this because they can no longer afford the losses of all the BlackBerry users that have switced to the iPhone because they didn’t have a way to sync their device.

That makes sense. Maybe they’re finally seeing the light.

Will RIM make one for Linux?

Not sure. It’s taken them years to even acknowledge there are Mac users out there who own BlackBerrys.

I can not believe this is finally happening. I finally gave up using Pocket Mac because it was just simply garbage and have just been backing my contacts using Google Sync which actually works great.

TY RIM.

Now let’s get some leaked versions goin boys!

YEEEHAAAAA

If we get enough apps for Apple and Linux, I’ll never have use Windows.

This one one factor I actually considered when buying an Intel iMac last month but I won’t have to buy Parallels and Windows just for that now. Thank God. That would def open my machine up to all the Windows viruses and issues associated with the OS.

This is great great news. GOLD STAR to RIM as long as the BB Desktop for Mac is a solid well done effort.

If RIM doesn’t fix this app to work in such a way that it can fix my BlackBerry when it dies (that is, reload the OS with the App Loader), which means distributing BlackBerry OS data in something other than just an EXE (or having an extractor in the Manager to deal with the EXEs), I’m going to be sorely [expletive deleted]. To be honest, I couldn’t care less about a desktop manager that just syncs my calendar and contacts, I sync with Google; Apps isn’t too big a deal, most are available OTA; I can’t rescue my BlackBerry when the OS goes kablooey without rebooting into Windows, because somehow the BlackBerry doesn’t like connecting to software inside of VMWare (no clue how things get screwed up here).

One thing, that’s all RIM has to do. If they don’t do it, I’m probably going to ignore all the rest of their software for the rest of their existence until they do that one thing (much like how I ignore most of Nokia’s software for the EXACT SAME REASON).
