Flooding In The MidWest Prompts RIM To PostPone Planned BlackBerry Outage

Remember the scheduled BlackBerry outage that Research in Motion was supposed to be having this passed Saturday morning? Well, thanks to “outstanding cooperation” on the part of RIM with Missouri’s emergency response community, the planned BlackBerry outage for database upgrades was postponed.

The request for not taking down BlackBerry service early Saturday morning didn’t come in from Homeland Security until late Friday afternoon. By RIM keeping the BlackBerry network up and running, emergency workers were able to communicate without missing a beat.

I know that I’ve said RIM didn’t have a clue as to how disruptive BlackBerry outages are. In this particular case, they clearly did, and, I applaud them.

Sudoku Is Free Again

Sudoku has got to be one of my all time favorite free BlackBerry Games and it just so happens to be available as a free BlackBerry download once again. Via your device’s BlackBerry Browser, head on over to mobile.BlackBerry.com. Under Fun & Games select Games >Free Games, accept the agreement, and Sudoku will be the 4th game listed.

I Like The BlackBerry Curve In Black

I am not sure why, but, there is something that I like about the BlackBerry Curve in all black.

As many of you may have already heard, there are some pretty solid rumors that the CDMA BlackBerry Curve 8330 from Sprint will hit their network on April 20th.

We just talked about an April launch of the Sprint BlackBerry Curve and posted a live picture of a test device last week. I have to admit, however, that the screen grab from BBGeeks of what looks to be marketing material from Sprint, the all black version looks kind of sweet.

Is Wi-Fi On A BlackBerry A Big Deal?

I used to really think that Wi-Fi on a BlackBerry would be the coolest thing since sliced bread, however, the more I think about it the more I wonder just how useful Wi-Fi on a BlackBerry really is.

The SlingPlayer Mobile Client that is coming out for BlackBerry will be kind of cool, but, beyond that, what real advantages will Wi-Fi give you on your BlackBerry?

A RIMarkable reader sent us an email over the weekend asking why I haven’t made a big deal about the new Wi-Fi enabled BlackBerrys that have come out, or, are coming out. I guess that the question I have in return is if having Wi-Fi on a BlackBerry something to make a big deal about.

Maybe I am biased because my carrier offers no BlackBerrys with Wi-Fi. Maybe I am overlooking some obvious benefit. If I am, let me know about it in the comments.
