Auction 73 is over and Verizon and AT&T come out the big winners. What is Auction 73 you might ask. It is that big FCC auction of the 700 MHz broadband spectrum that is soon being vacated by analog broadcast TV.
The 700 MHz spectrum is broken into five blocks A through E. Verizon won the most coveted block C for a whopping $9.6 billion. AT&T won the majority of block bidding $6.6 billion.
To make a long story short Verizon, AT&T, and to a much lesser extent, the other spectrum winners have an awful lot of bandwidth that they will be able to offer really cool services on top up. What is great for consumers is that the FCC mandated that spectrum winners keep these frequencies open. Open networks mean that any hardware manufacture can create devices to run on top of these networks.
We should start to see some really cool wireless devices hitting the market once these networks get rolling.

I have a question for BlackBerry users that use your devices with BlackBerry Internet Service (BIS) only. How many of you are using your BlackBerrys solely with Gmail, Yahoo, or some other free email service?
Do you use your BlackBerry solely with a free email account?

Everyone is talking about this really cool new theme from Bplay called Crossbar that kind of “raises the bar” as far as BlackBerry themes go. Crossbar is an animated theme that, instead of scrolling the cursor from icon to icon, scrolls the first 7 applications and 3 Today icons across the screen.
The Theme is only $6.99, so, I decided to buy it and give it the once over. The way Crossbar scrolls icons is pretty cool. I’d be willing to bet that other theme developers will try this effect in their themes.

There have been a lot of rumors floating around that Sprint will be releasing the BlackBerry Curve 8330 on their network sometime next month and now that live Sprint BlackBerry Curve pictures are floating around, that rumor seems a bit more plausible. I have to admit, however, that I am still having a hard time imagining that Sprint may come out with the CDMA BlackBerry Curve before Verizon. It is kind of looking that way though…
