A RIMarkable reader who just happens to work for the United States House of Representatives told me that they, they being Congress and its employees, were offered a special pre-release option for the BlackBerry 8703e from Verizon and that they just started showing up today.
This rumor will undoubtedly be dwarfed by the release of the BlackBerry Pearl tomorrow, however, for those Verizon subscribers still waiting for an 87XX series BlackBerry, hopefully, our wait will end soon.

According to CNN.com, Federal authorities diverted a San-Francisco-bound United Airlines jet on its way from Atlanta to Dallas Monday after finding an unclaimed BlackBerry on board.
Transportation Security Administration spokeswoman Yolanda Clark said that the aircraft was secure and that there was no indication that the BlackBerry was being used as a remote trigger for an explosive device and that United flight 351 was diverted to Dallas “out of an abundance of caution.”
The flight was diverted on the fifth anniversary of the September 11, 2001, terror attacks. Authorities decided not to send military fighter aircraft to escort the jet, as is routine during an emergency, said Lt. Col. John Cornelio, a spokesman for U.S. Northern Command.
I guess it’s always better to be safe than sorry. What a world we live in these days…

Tomorrow’s release of the BlackBerry Pearl on T-Mobile marks the beginning of a new era of multimedia enabled BlackBerry devices for Research in Motion. Although there have been rumors that a Cingular branded BlackBerry Pearl could hit shelves as soon as October, it will be quite some time before the Pearl, or, any CameraBerry for that matter, is offered by the CDMA carriers Verizon and Sprint.
The question that I have is for those of you that really want a Pearl but are on networks that won’t have it for a while. Will you switch carriers just to get a BlackBerry Pearl?
