Verizon BlackBerry 8130: It’s About Time

by Robb Dunewood on August 15, 2007 · 22 comments

Today is the day that we have been waiting for since we first heard that CDMA BlackBerry 8100 development lagged behind the GSM version.

Nothing is official yet, but, BGR is reporting that the the BlackBerry 8130 will be released on Verizon sometime in November.

The SureType CameraBerry that looks like it could be the BlackBerry Pearl 2 will have 1xEvDO, a 2 megapixel camera with flash, stereo Bluetooth, and a standard 3.5mm headset Jack.

I cannot wait…

This is great news! I have been waiting for VZW to step up.

Maybe there is a Verizon Curve in the near future. Pearl is nice but not appropriate for business.

I think VZW adding the Pearl (finally) is a great step forward. Better late than never. VZW has a poor line of consumer phones. The Pearl should be a hot seller for VZW and a big money maker considering users will now be adding a data plan to their already existing service.

My girlfriend has been waiting for VZW to get the Pearl for a long time. She actually considered switching carriers, but VZW’s service is so much better, and almost everyone she talks to on the phone is a Verizon customer, so it made sense not to switch.

I am happy they are (finally) getting one, I must say however that I am very disapointed in the fact that it took them so long to do so. I am a current customer and have them for my data card but no longer for my phone servoce, I am however happy for the people who are still using them as there phone carrier, as they have a very good network. I must say as usual I am very happy with ATT and still like verizon but its too late to go back so, sorry big V, I love you but you can only be my mistress at this point as I am married to big blue and happily at that. Neverthless good fo r you big V.

Doubt it. Their last BB, the 8830, was also silver. Ugly if you ask me. I’m sure the Sprint model with be black, as it should be.

I have been looking forward to the Pearl becoming available from Verizon. But some have commented that it is not a good phone for Business purposes. Other than not having a full Qwerty key board (not an issue for me) what are its flaws for business purposes?

Does anyone know if it will be worldphone enabled like the 8800 series?

From what I’ve been reading, it won’t be a worldphone.

The Pearl seems to be a great “Prosumer” phone that many people may need. Pseudo-business types with pseudo-business needs. I need a good organizer/calender and decent texting capabilities.

The only issue I have is that data is required. If this phone is to truly be marketed to the mass prosumer audience, data should be an option. I rarely need to check e-mail. Just random thoughts.

I have heard several comments that the Pearl is not a real business phone or that it is “Prosumer”. Not sure what all that means. I need a phone with a good calendar that will synch with outlook express –same for address/contacts–and will synch wirelessly. I need it to provide task lists and to send and receive emails fast and efficiently. I do not need a full qwerty key board. Will the Pearl meet my needs?

I’m pretty ignorant with this stuff, but when everyone bitches about how Verizon “locks” features, what features exactly are being locked? In other words, what features does the T-Mobile and/or AT&T Pearl have that the Verizon doesn’t? I was actually going to switch carriers since I wanted this, but if it is really coming for Verizon in November I can wait, since almost everyone I know has Verizon. Also, does anyone know if the voice plan / data they offer for $79.99/mo. (450 minutes) involves internet and all that jazz? Thanks.

I have been waiting so long that it is finally available to VZW! I currently have the Palm Treo and I can’t wait to get rid of this phone. I have only heard good things about the Blackberry! I’m so excited & I’ll be one of crazy customers standing in line to get it!

I just got the pearl today and I love it. I have been waiting and waiting for VZW to come out with it, even having dreams at night about it, and here it is. However… The site where I got my ringtones for my old 7130 (www.tuneusin.com) refuses to come up on the 8130! Any hints, fellow blackberry addicts? I’ve tried messing with the browser settings and such, but it still gives me a “rendering the object” error. Thanks for any help you can offer. :-)
