When is it suppose to hit the stores ?
Late Fall at the earliest… At least that is what has been rumored…
If RIM was smart they would sell the Storm 2 thru ALL providers and direct since it has world phone capabilities. Also let’s hope RIM learned from the Storm 1 mess (thanks for nothing big red) and that RIM doesn’t cave to service providers demands again on the Storm 2.
I don’t disagree that a direct to customer model isn’t a bad idea, however, RIM won’t, for the foreseeable future, make the kind of money selling direct to customers that they do selling to phone carriers because the phone carriers subsidize the price of the hardware in exchange for getting customers to sign on the dotted line for multi-year contracts.
I was going to get the original Storm, then got all excited when I heard about the Storm 2. What a disappointment, there’s hardly any difference between them. I’m an Alltel customer and they’re the *only* ones with a tower in my (small) town. They’ll be completely switched to VZW in September IIRC. I think I’ll hold out and wait to see what Google Android phones they get instead. I’d love something with a 480×800 screen. 360×480 is somewhat painful to view most websites on. I’ll be using the phone more for browsing than email, and every review I’ve found shows that Android beats Blackberry for browsing anyways.
