Bob, Cingular will have exclusivity on the 8700 series in the U.S. for a “period of months” according to RIM co-CEO Jim Balsillie. He states that you will see the 8700 on other carriers in the not too distant future. My guess is mid to late Q1 next year.

Got my 8700c from Cingular on 12/26. Glad I didn’t get the 7100 to save money. I love it now that it works. The query keyboard is difficult for me as the buttons are so small. Combined with the bluetooth HS850 this is a convenient setup. The display screen is high res and pictures are fine looking. However, here is a serious issue I had from the start with 8700 from the start. From cingular the 2 networks are GSM or EDGE, EDGE is the “faster” network. Mine had issues with it not being able to transfer data, ie. no browser or email. I spent more time in Cingular the 1st day than at work. Finally, after 2 days @ Cingular, 1 day and 30 minutes w/ tech support, a solution was stumbled upon. The sim card was not compatible. A Cingular sales consultant installed the “new blue 3 D” sim card and the EDGE network has been up ever since. The point is, your Cingular rep. won’t know a lot about the 8700, tech support hinted at the problem, but didnt specifically identify it, so be patient or find the most knowledgeable sales rep possible. Next thing, I’m looking for a holster that is not the hard plastic one that comes with the 8700, it’s uncomfortable and will probably break and leave my phone deposited somewhere. Last issue, the eOffice professional software is real pricey, and a magnifying glass would be helpful to see some of the selections. Lastly, I’m glad I bought the 8700c, and the unlimited data transfer option from Cingular was a good choice. Hope you enjoy yours. Happy New Year!

I’ve just got the Blackberry 8700v (in the UK). It’s a great device in terms of features and screen but I have to admit that the quality of the product is not up to that of the 7290.
Also there is a big disadvantage with the colour screen - you can not see it once the backlight turns off. Unless I’m missing something.
