In case you haven’t already heard, Research in Motion is running a promotion where the company is giving away $77 worth of premium BlackBerry apps to U.S. based BlackBerry users with BlackBerry 7 devices.

The promotion ends May 31st, so, you’ve got two weeks to get in on the promotion.  There are over 20 premium BlackBerry 7 apps to which you can get for free and all you have to do to get them is head over to BlackBerry App World and download them.

This is definitely a promotion that you won’t want to miss…

DISA Mission Partner Conference, Tampa, FL – Research In Motion (RIM) (NASDAQ: RIMM; TSX: RIM) today announced DoD-wide approval for the use of BlackBerry® 7 smartphones. Working with U.S. Army and Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) sponsors and partners, BlackBerry 7 smartphones have undergone successful testing through Army labs leading to a subsequent listing on DISA’s Unified Communications Approved Product List (UCAPL).

BlackBerry 7 and 7.1 OS Achieve FIPS 140-2 Certification

Waterloo, ON – Research In Motion (RIM) (NASDAQ: RIMM; TSX: RIM) today announced that BlackBerry® smartphones running on the powerful new BlackBerry® 7 and BlackBerry® 7.1 Operating Systems (OS) have been awarded FIPS 140-2 certification by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and the Communications Security Establishment Canada (CSEC). FIPS (Federal Information Processing Standard) 140-2 is recognized by the U.S. and Canadian governments and is required under the Federal Information Security Management Act of 2002 (FISMA).

Research in Motion today, at CES 2012, has officially unveiled BlackBerry OS 7.1 which brings a familiar look and feel to existing BlackBeryr 7 devices, but, ads Mobile HotSpot support, NFC Tag support, and FM radio support to select BlackBerry Curve models.

Along with the BlackBerry 7.1 update, BlackBerry Messenger, BlackBerry Travel, and BlackBerry Traffic have been updated as well.

OS 7.1 for the Verizon BlackBerry Bold 9930 and Torch 9850 starts rolling out Jan. 10th

Word on the street is that BlackBerry OS 7.1 for the Verizon BlackBerry Bold 9930 and BlackBerry Torch 9850 will start rolling out tomorrow, Jan. 10th.

The big to do in the RIM’s latest version of the BlackBerry 7 operating system is Mobile HotSpot which will allow up to 5 devices to share your device’s mobile broadband connection to gain internet access.

7digital Music Store updated to v1.5.11 and now supports BlackBerry 7 devices

7digital Music Store has been updated to version 1.5.11 and now includes support for BlackBerry 7 devices.

Those BlackBerry 7 device users taking advantage of the free BlackBerry Apps being given away by RIM as a Thank You Gift for bearing with the company through it’s biggest outage in history may have noticed that if you tried to buy music from Shazam Encore, it took you to a link that didn’t exist.

Needless to say, this is no longer the case…

Free weather app AccuWeather updated to v1.3 and adds support for BlackBerry 7 devices
