It seems like at least once or twice a year, for the passed several years, we hear rumors about how Microsoft may be looking to buy Research in Motion. This year is a little different because RIM’s stock price spiraling downward.

Canacoccord Adams analyst, Peter Misek, says that he is “fairly certain that Microsoft has a standing offer to buy RIM at $50 a share”. The stock is currently at $59.03 and if it drops another 30%, which in normal times would sound like a pretty big stretch, Microsoft would have more than enough cash to attempt a takeover play.

We certainly aren’t in normal times, so, if Microsoft seriously wants to make a play for RIM, the BlackBerry may be ripe for the picking… Pun intended.
