Why Google Ending Support Of Google Sync For BlackBerry Isn’t A Big Deal

April 22, 2012 by Robb Dunewood 4 Comments

In case you haven’t heard, Google recently announced that support for Google Sync for BlackBerry will end beginning June 1st.

Although Research in Motion has experienced several key software defections from the BlackBerry platform, Google Sync for BlackBerry is not one of them.  Full Gmail BIS sync has been around for quite a while and offers two-way mail, calendar, and contact synchronization from a single interface.

To make a long story short, Google is ending support of Google Sync for BlackBerry because it is no longer necessary.

Unless you have multiple Google calendars, in which case, the BIS sync is wholly inadequate, as it only syncs the primary calendar. The real reason that the loss of Google sync isn’t a big issue is that there is support for multiple Google calendar support on the BlackBerry PlayBook, which is running a version of the OS that will be powering the new BB10 phones.

User with Internet connection but no BIS (some countries don’t have BlackBerry service) will need it.
