Why do all BlackBerry PlayBook models cost $299?

January 3, 2012 by Robb Dunewood 5 Comments

Research in Motion, via Shop BlackBerry, is running a new BlackBerry PlayBook promotion, though, I am not quite sure it makes a lot of sense.  Through Feb. 4th, the 16 GB, 32 GB, and 64 GB models all cost $299.

Needless to say, those interested in getting a new PlayBook should only buy the 64 GB model.  I wonder, however, how RIM expects to sell anything but the 64 GB model.

RIM isn’t making money at SRP anyway, so slash prices, take a hit and get the market saturated with your product…
Short term pain for long term gain for those who can see the true value in this smart strategy.

    Jusy saying!

Yeah, but, shouldn’t RIM make a distinction between models.  Setting the 16GB at $299 makes it seem ridiculously over priced when compared to the 64GB model.

Good point but a single price for all models creates an environment of equal ‘supply and demand’ as well a consumer thurst for the higher end models that perhaps didn’t sell all that well at the last price point (fire sale).

I think its a win all around…plus, it aint my money 🙂

I think that ShopBlackBerry.com is down.  At least it is in the United States.

the simple reason is that they want people to buy more from the 64, because compare to the other once , its price looks ridicules!
