A question that I’ve been asked 42 times and counting since last Thursday is when will Verizon start taking pre-orders for the BlackBerry Pearl? We initially thought October 26th would be the date, however, that was based on a leaked document slating the 8130 to come out 9th before we heard that it was coming out on November 1st.
If Verizon is indeed coming out with the BlackBerry Pearl on November 1st, does this mean that we could see pre-orders this week?
Robb,
Come on as a verizon customer you should know the BB 8130 will be available when verizon says so. Of course it’ll have to pass all of verizon’s “rigorous testing” first. How foolish would it be to think RIM or any other manufacture would be able to successfully make a wireless device without verizon’s input. Also it takes time to figure out which features and functions to cripple in order to be better able to nickle and dime. ๐
Where are the posts about the 8310 on at&t and the 8320 on t-mo? the Pearl is old news.
As a Verizon customer I am not at all excited about the Pearl droppin in CDMA form! Please, this is so last year!!! Give us a Black CDMA Curve and your talkin big red.
hellno: that’s the advantage of having your own blog…you can post about whatever you want ๐ So if Robb wants to focus on the 8130, then that’s just fine.
What I would be interested in knowing is if there is any advantage to preordering? Do you get the device earlier, or at a discount, or with an extra accessory? I doubt it…it just seems that in today’s day and age of material abundance, there is not much use in preordering. Most likely people will be able to get the device on the day of its release just as readily.
If I were Verizon, I’d offer the unit in a special pre-order package…maybe a special box with an extra accessory…something to reward people for placing their order early.
I just want that dag um thing. I have been talking about it a lot, I know, but, it is the first device that I have been excited about since the 7130e.
Verizon really needs to do something about that year lag behind the GSM carriers.
AT&T’s netowrk is almost good enough and I imagine that it will just be a matter of time before I could care less which network I go with. ๐
Robb, please let us know if you hear anything; I’m in the same boat as you!
I’d like Verizon to offer a consumer data package for the Blackberry. My friend wants one of these, but wouldn’t really use much of the data (and wouldn’t want to pay the $25 per month or so that Verizon is asking for 10MB).
Robb,
As a positive verizon has publicly laid out how they will deal with proprietary cdma and all the problems which come with it. verizon has said they are following voda and 99% of the rest of the world in going with LTE which is a member in the GSM family of technologies. That will solve alot of “problems” but it won’t be over night, perhaps in less than 3 years?
Having had 3 Pearls it is totally understandable to be very excited about the Pearl coming to verizon. With little doubt it WILL be the best phone on the verizon network, as long as verizon doesn’t screw with it.
I just don’t give verizon, or any other service providing company an inch when it comes to making things more difficult and more expensive for it’s consumers by crippling and removing functions. RIM and other manufactures push more and more function and usability with each device release, it’s unforgivable when verizon or any other provider retards the manufactures good work, bet we all agree when it comes to that RIM deserves better.
Eric,
With BB remember the providers do use RIM’s servers and there is a cost in doing so. verizon can’t do all that much and still make $$.
Robb,
Any updates? Last I saw, pre-order was set for about 2 weeks from launch. If Nov. 1 is the launch date, shouldn’t that make the Pearl pre-orderable (assuming that’s a word) as of yesterday?
Robb,
I’m supposed to be a “VIP” customer of Verizon’s, and thought I’d throw that around to see whether it could help with pre-orders. Called Verizon Wireless (800 number from web site) this morning, and the saleswoman didn’t even know the expected launch date, let alone the pre-order date. Disappointing, considering that the pre-order is supposed to be something like this Friday.

Jim – What was the VIP 800#? I recently recd a card from VZW just misplaced the card……and was looking to see if its truly VIP service or lip service….
Dan
Dan,
I got all the info from http://www.verizonwirelessvip.com
If you log in, you get bounced to a Verizon Wireless page, and from there they give you the standard 800 number – 1-800-256-4646.
I recently converted my company phones from Sprint to Verizon 8830’s. Rep told me that November 2nd was the release date for the Pearl. I think I would like the pearl better than the 8830, of course, after a couple more weeks of using this phone I may not want to change if I get used to the qwerty keyboard.
Spoke to a Verizon rep yesterday, Pearl will be available Nov 19th.
I went to a large Manhattan Verizon store and was told it would come out on Nov 15
so the consensus is: november 2nd19th15th! sounds like AT&T’s Philawhereapragueacago… hopefully the 2nd is for real!
