If you haven’t noticed, there are quite a few IM clients available for the BlackBerry including a fair amount of free BlackBerry IM clients as well.
Personally, I only use the free BlackBerry IM clients such as BlackBerry Messenger, Yahoo Messenger, and Google Talk, however, I hear that some of the clients that allow you to use different networks from the same client are quite good.
Rumor has it that RIM is about to release a few more native BlackBerry IM clients and I am wondering if I should just wait until they come out or go ahead and get one of those integrated clients.
If anyone has any opinions on some of the integrated BlackBerry IM clients available, your comments would be much appreciated. I don’t want to shell out the cash for one before I know if it is worth it or not.

I really love IM+: it can replace every other client at the same time.

I think they all suck… I have most of my AIM / MSN contacts on GTalk too and have almost exclusively switched to that. I can’t WAIT till RIM releases their clients!!

If you like AIM and MSN, go with Yak-On, it’s the best and reliable!

I have had three generations of 20+ Blackberries on Verichat. In our tests its responsiveness was so much faster than Googletalk. It handles Yahoo, MSN, AIM, and ICQ. There is an annual fee but that’s because you connect to their servers that in turn keep a persistant connection to the IM host.

I use VeriChat for my Blackberry, because I think it’s the best program for the job. The UI and functionality is much better IMO than the other options. I’d love it if there were free programs provided by RIM, which I would probably use after my subscription of VeriChat is up, but for now at least, I’m quite happy with VeriChat.

Does a message received or sent via yak-on count as a text message under a Cingular plan?

Its been months since the rumor that an aim native client was coming out. I have yet to hear even any updates. I am doubtful.

The native clients are already made, it’s just a matter of service books. Carriers aren’t supplying service books for the services, but RIM has already created an AIM, MSN, and ICQ client.

Can’t believe no one has mentioned Beejive? It’s fantastic

Beejive is expensive though

Beejive is cheaper than IM+ and in my opinion much better. It can run in the background on your BlackBerry and I haven’t had any problems with it since installing it on my Pearl.

ive tried IM+ and beejive. i like beejive but i wouldnt want to pay. IM+ kinda sucked and only let you go on one.. not all 3 (aim, yahoo, msn). i also tried ebuddy but its kinda laggy and has some bugs. im really hoping rim makes aim available, or a multi messenger app. thats really all i need.
