I never thought it would be useful until I traveled across India a month back. It helped me tremendously in discovering places to stay at, restaurants, pubs, etc, with first hand reviews for most places. It is not widespread in India but it has terrific potential when you are traveling, or want to discover new places in your neighborhood.

Give it a go. Walk out on a Sunday and use Foursquare to discover places. Now whether you want to share your experiences with other foursquare users by checking in, adding places, adding tips... thats entirely up to you.

Nop, this doesn't works. in my storm2 the app with the compatibility mode off is a nightmare.

Foursquare is developing a specific storm2 app. Hope they will be ready soon...

Whoa! maybe I'm just too old - or wiser - for such an app. I would like my younger children to have it and use it so I know where they are (for real) at all times, but as for me .. TMI. Beware users!

I tried this on my Storm2 and it didn't play too well on this device. I see the picture here is from a Storm2 also. Did they update it to include it now?

I think it's fun if you've got some good friends on there with you. You can choose to just have your check-ins sent to your Foursquare friends. They don't have to be tweeted, or sent to Facebook. In fact, I'd recommend not doing that.

And the app doesn't update your location unless you tell it to. So if you go to a strip club you obviously don't have to check-in there.

There's no reason to be fearful of it as long as you keep the updates sent to your friends.

Plus, you have to manually pick up your phone, open up the app, and type in the name of the venue you're at and hopefully it finds it (that is if someone previously added the venue on their website) so you can check-in. It sounds more of an inconvenience...and apparently dangerous in reference to your article.
