    gquaglia,

“Sorry, but the Pearl is too small.”??? What does that mean? Perhaps RIM should work on a bag phone for you? Having bought 3 Pearls over the past years it’s been out I disagree. RIM hit a home run with the BB Pearl. The form factor coupled with suretype and RIM’s BB OS kicks major ass. The Pearl has proven itself as one of the best smartphones available on GSM. One can only guess it will be the best smartphone available in verizon’s meager offerings. Anyone have any spec’s for the cdma Pearl, to compare it to past and future RIM Pearls?

    Robb,

RIM should send you a pre-release model as a thank you.

@hello, relax dude. For me its too small. Not to mention, I don’t like the sure type. I like the Curve form factor better and will be switching to that once Sprint releases it next year.

    Dan,

The Verizon BlackBerry Pearl could be officially announced as early as this coming Wednesday. It has been rumored to come out sometime in the October/November time frame…

It’s not being released in two days. That’s something different. You’ll see.

Robb: FYI, “liquidplatinum” knows what he is talking about; he has a great track record on Verizon devices over at howardforums.com…I’d bet what he wrote is very very true…

Mr.liquidplatinum,If you can’t tell us what it is, do you think it’s better than or worse than or equal to the pearl? In other words, if it isn’t the Pearl should I wait?

    Thank you.

Okay, this is supposed to be a consumer oriented unit. I assume, dangerous I know, that one can access regular POP3/IMAP4 non-push email directly w/o going thru RIM? If this is the case, when there’s a RIM outage like last week, does that have any impact upon such users?

Or am I out in left field by thinking it’s possible to access email in any manner other than through the RIM servers?

    Thank you,
    pat—-

    psklenar,

It’s still a RIM Blackberry and is designed and built to use the RIM BB servers for all data other than SMS. Have heard but never confirmed there is a hack to use BB’s without subscribing to BB service, but hardly think the hack is worth it. When you decide to buy a BB device you also really need to use BB service to get your money’s worth. All data goes thru the BB servers.

I like Robb, really like Verizons service! However, the Pearl has been out for over a year already, I don’t care if it’s the Pearl 2,3,4 (whatever) If Verizon wants to make a dent they better bring something better to the table like a CDMA Curve or better. They are extremely late to the dance this time, come on November!!! By that time at&t will offer even more devices then they do now- Curve, 8820, Pearl, HTC Tilt, iphone, and who knows what else! I’m sorry but Verizon must do better in order to take my attention away from at&t!

I’m pretty psyched for the Pearl. I currently carry a cell phone and PDA, and have been holding off getting a BB ’til I saw one that would let me consolidate all 3 of these devices (including the BB) into a single device. The Pearl does it, and in a form factor only slightly larger than my current phone. I was really tempted to get the original Pearl when it came out, but it was only on TMo for a while, and their coverage in my area (DC) is HORRIBLE. I love Verizon’s coverage in this region, so I’ve been (im)patiently waiting for Verizon to get this phone. Now I only have to wait another month and a half or so!

For those who misunderstood “liquidplatinum” when he wrote that the Pearl is not being released in a few days, per the Verizon countdown clock, but that it’s “something different”…he didn’t mean a different model. Judging from posts on other sites, he meant the event to which the countdown clock alludes is an announcement of these new models, not the actual release. There are also rumors circulating that Verizon will be unveiling new data plan pricing as well. That is the “something different.”

One more rumor has it that Verizon is going to release the first phone on the left when the countdown clock winds down, and then a new countdown will begin for the next release, and so on…the Pearl is the 3rd in the sequence, and so it will still be November when the actual release hits…

    gquaglia,

Agreed. I want a Curve-like form factor. I have suffered enough with Sure Type on my 7130e. Several co-workers have Pearls and while they love using it as a phone, they hate it as an email device. They all complain about Sure Type and the small keyboard.
