I am a big fan of g mail as well as now being able to use it on my bb. If you use google apps you can add to your calendar and there are all kinds of other options for syncing your g mail with the rest of your bb life :) yay bb!

I've had the app installed on my Curve for a while. But I thought with the update I would give it a spin as my only email option.

I lasted less than 24 hrs.

Deal breakers:

-Can't select text
-Can't accept GCal meeting invites (neither to add to GCal nor to your bberry cal)
-Many links do not come through in the email (resulting in lots of "Click here" with no link to click)

Other annoyances:

-Can't dial phone numbers by clicking
-No integration with bberry contact list

Until these things clear up, the app isn't a replacement for me.

Installing this new version now, but cannot get this to work. I had a very sound 2.05, includes the google apps version. Dont understand what happens. Several re-installs now, once I try to log in, it hangs while loading the emails. At some point it does say: "This programme requires a working data connection. Please check your signal strength". I have 2G and 3G and Wifi on (and the various combinations). Let me know your suggestions...

@ Josh

(1) No, but it's better than the Blackberry's BIS, IMHO, *NOTE* RIM is rolling out a device software update that will enable HTML email viewing. There are also applications you can pay for that deliver emails in HTML.

(2) You have several options for getting your gmail on you blackberry
option 1: POP-3
-- notifications are pretty quick but it will not synchronize read/unread items from you inbox

option 2: IMAP
-- notifications can lag behind some, but read/unread items will be synchronized. no access to labels just your inbox.

option 3: GMail Mobile app
-- notifications are about the same as IMAP, your read/unread will be synchronized across and you can also view ALL your labels, chats, and manage SPAM

option 4: forwarding to your BIS
-- delivery is INSTANT

(3) I have no idea. I've never tried... just tried and unless I'm missing an option - no you cant.

But you can can configure your reply-to address in your carrier's BIS settings.

hope I helped!

A few basic questions from a GMail addict who is considering a blackberry:

Thanks in advance for your help:
(1) Does the GMail app display HTML emails?

(2) Does it do push with any notifications

(3) I have another email address forwarded to my GMail account and use that other address as my from, and reply-to email. Can the GMail app handle that?

Thanks

I have quite a few gmail accounts that I like to keep completely separate from my work and person email. I have one email icon for BES mail and another for my BIS yahoo account, I tend to check messages whenever they come in and make no distinction between the accounts.

I used to get my gmail via BIS however, I found that I was getting so many messages that I started to tune the ones I wanted to know about in real time out.

The Gmail for Mobile application truly allows you to keep your gmail accounts seperate from your BIS and BES accounts. Since I have multiple Gmail accounts, the multiple account login gives me a bit of flexibility that I didn't have before.
