"It’s no big secret that industry awards are often nothing more than a sham with awards earmarked here and there so that each company can walk away with another excuse for a bad press release. Some of the awards given out this past Tuesday at the Global Mobile Awards in Barcelona however, are making us scratch our heads more than usual. We don’t mean to single out any companies in particular, but when we saw that RIM’s SurePress got the nod for the Best Mobile Technology Breakthrough we were absolutely flabbergasted. Breakthrough in what way? And don’t give us that whole “precision typing and navigation enables a whole [sic] range of applications and features that have not been possible on a touchscreen mobile device” spin that some random PR intern cooked up."

Yes I do agree . Surepress technology included in the device was very useful as it eliminates confusion between navigating and confirming. Besides this, the unit also allows to create a virtual mouse pointer that can be used to touch the screen minutely without any stylus

I have always thought the Surepress technology was one of the best features on the Storm. It's an absolutely elegant way to get close to the tactile feedback of a physical keypad but on a virtual one.

The problem with the Storm has never been Surepress; it's been the software. One could certainly have a very polished software OS that works quickly and responsively, and still have SurePress.

So I agree: Bravo to RIM for SurePress; it's the best solution so far for a virtual keyboard.

I love it too! but sadly I'll be trading it in as soon as the next one comes out. Can't handle the dust under the screen issue.
