It’s been almost 2 years since we got an email letting us know that Yahoo! Mobile for BlackBerry was getting the axe. Yesterday, April 5th, however, Yahoo! released a new Yahoo! Mobile for BlackBerry client which is now available in BlackBerry App World.

After careful consideration, Yahoo! has decided to cease development of Yahoo! Mobile for smartphones effective Wednesday, May 20th.
Moving forward, we will be focusing our efforts on the newly-launched Yahoo! Mobile experience for browsers (available at new.m.yahoo.com) and for the iPhone (available via the Apple App Store).
The feedback we’ve received from our beta testers during this program has been extremely helpful in improving the customer experience across all of our Yahoo! Mobile products. We hope you’ve enjoyed being a beta tester and that you’ll continue to provide passionate input to us regarding our products.

We are not quite sure why Yahoo decided not to put out Yahoo! Mobile for Smartphones. We are pretty sure, however, seeing how Yahoo! for Smartphones was pretty much an upgrade to Yahoo! Go which absolutely sucked, won’t be missed all that much.
We are a bit late on reporting this but when it comes to getting free BlackBerrys, better late than never is a good mantra to go by.
Yahoo! Mobile is giving away a free BlackBerry Pearl every day in May in their Pearl-a-Day Giveaway. All you have to do is go to m.yahoo.com/mobile on your mobile browser or text “mail” to 92466.
