UberSocial, Formerly UberTwitter, Gets Twitter API Access Reinstated

There is no question that one of the biggest tech stories over the weekend was Twitter suspending UberMedia Twitter clients TwiDroyd and UberTwitter for policy violations.  UberMedia quickly responded by addressing issues in it’s Twitter clients as well as changing the name of UberTwitter to UberSocial.  Twitter, via the Twitter Help Center has stated that steps have been taken to remedy the violations for these applications and has reinstated Twitter API access to both TwiDroyd and UberSocial.

Press Release: UberTwitter Changes Name To UberSocial

Press Release

PASADENA, Calif.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Bill Gross, CEO of UberMedia, Inc., today made the following statement regarding Twitter’s suspension of service to UberTwitter, Twidroyd and UberCurrent:

Early Friday morning, Twitter shut off access to its service by several of our Twitter client applications: UberTwitter, Twidroyd, and UberCurrent. Twitter then notified us that they believed we were in violation of several provisions of their terms of service.

We were immediately in touch with Twitter, and the changes they asked us to make were very small. As a result, we have completed the changes, and new apps are currently being posted to their respective stores. Twitter has assured us that as soon as those changes were complete, they would reactivate our applications.

Twitter also asked us to modify the name of UberTwitter. We began a process of changing the name three weeks ago by polling our users, and we’ve decided based on their input to change the product name to UberSocial, which we completed today.

To our millions of loyal users, we appreciate your patience during this temporary period. We look forward to continuing our innovations on the Twitter platform.

7 BlackBerry Twitter Clients To Try While UberTwitter Is Suspended

We figure that with UberTwitter being suspended, millions of BlackBerry users will be looking for another Twitter client to use on their device.  If you happen to be one of those poor souls, we hope this list will make your search for a new BlackBerry Twitter client go a bit more quickly.

Here is our list of 7 BlackBerry Twitter clients to use while UberTwitter is suspended:

  1. Twitter for BlackBerry — This is the official BlackBerry Twitter client and I recommend installing it no matter what third party Twitter client you use.  It can definitely get you by in times like these.
  2. SocialScope — I believe that SocialScope is in infinite closed beta, but, if you can get an invite, you may never even go back to UberTwitter.
  3. Seesmic for BlackBerry — We’ve only talked about Seesmic for BlackBerry a few times, but, Mac users seem to swear by it.
  4. HootSuite for BlackBerryHootSuite is kind of cool because, like SocialScope, it connects to your Twitter and Facebook accounts.
  5. TweetGenius — Haven’t really heard anything bad about TweetGenius other than it cost $8.
  6. TwiXtreme –  We talked about TwiXtreme when it first came out, but, not since.  Maybe we should go back and check it out again.
  7. OpeanBeak — I honestly haven’t messed around with OpeanBeak since they changed the name from TwitterBerry.

For every third party BlackBerry Twitter client that I’ve put on this list, I’ve probably left 2 or 3 off.  If you can think of a good Twitter client (updated in the last year or so) drop us a line in the comments.

Twitter Suspends UberMedia Twitter Clients TwiDroyd And UberTwitter For Policy Violations

For all you UberTwitter and TwiDroyd users out there that are wondering why you third party Twitter client doesn’t seem to be working, it is because Twitter has suspended both of these popular Twitter clients from UberMedia for violating Twitter’s policies.

Regardless of how you access Twitter, we are dedicated to making Twitter better, faster and more reliable for you. As part of this effort, we ask applications that work with Twitter to abide by a simple set of rules that we believe are in the interests of our users, and the health and vitality of the Twitter platform as a whole. We often take actions to enforce these rules.

We have suspended UberTwitter and twidroyd for violating our policies.

Every day, we suspend hundreds of applications that are in violation of our policies. Generally, these apps are used by a small number of users. We are taking the unusual step of sharing this with you because today’s suspension may affect a larger number of users.

We are committed to helping you continue to use Twitter during the disruption of these applications. You can download Twitter for Blackberry, Twitter for Android and other official Twitter apps here. You can also try our mobile web site or apps from other third-party developers.

I can’t speak to the impact of TwiDroyd being shut down for Android users, but, UberTwitter is probably the most popular thrid party Twitter client readily available on the BlackBerry and a gazillion to the 2nd power users use it…

Something tells me that the number of requests for Social Scope invite codes is about to go through the roof.

UberTwitter Acquired By PostUp — Company Renamed To UberMedia

We just heard that UberTwitter, arguably the most popular third party Twitter client for the BlackBerry, has been acquired by PostUp and that the company has been renamed to UberMedia.

Chief executive Bill Gross mentions that the company is working to become the best “Twitter partner” for the ecosystem with the recent acquisition, but after buying another Twitter company Echofon earlier this month, it may be gobbling up applications in the attempt to offer a  robust and attractive communication package, which may be in direct competition to Twitter.

With the addtition of UberTwitter, along with Twidroyd and Echofon, UberMedia now Twitter solutions for the BlackBerry, Android, an the iPhone.  I wouldn’t be shocked if you see a Windows Phone 7, or, maybe a webOS acquisition taking place in the not too distant future.
