BlackBerry Twitter Clients

We figure that with UberTwitter being suspended, millions of BlackBerry users will be looking for another Twitter client to use on their device.  If you happen to be one of those poor souls, we hope this list will make your search for a new BlackBerry Twitter client go a bit more quickly.

Here is our list of 7 BlackBerry Twitter clients to use while UberTwitter is suspended:

  1. Twitter for BlackBerry — This is the official BlackBerry Twitter client and I recommend installing it no matter what third party Twitter client you use.  It can definitely get you by in times like these.
  2. SocialScope — I believe that SocialScope is in infinite closed beta, but, if you can get an invite, you may never even go back to UberTwitter.
  3. Seesmic for BlackBerry — We’ve only talked about Seesmic for BlackBerry a few times, but, Mac users seem to swear by it.
  4. HootSuite for BlackBerryHootSuite is kind of cool because, like SocialScope, it connects to your Twitter and Facebook accounts.
  5. TweetGenius — Haven’t really heard anything bad about TweetGenius other than it cost $8.
  6. TwiXtreme –  We talked about TwiXtreme when it first came out, but, not since.  Maybe we should go back and check it out again.
  7. OpeanBeak — I honestly haven’t messed around with OpeanBeak since they changed the name from TwitterBerry.

For every third party BlackBerry Twitter client that I’ve put on this list, I’ve probably left 2 or 3 off.  If you can think of a good Twitter client (updated in the last year or so) drop us a line in the comments.

OpenBeak (Formerly TwitterBerry)

One of the first and most popular BlackBerry Twitter clients that seems like it has been around forever is TwitterBerry.  With the release of the latest version, Orangatame Software, the company behind TwitterBerry, has changed the name of the application.  Forevermore, TwitterBerry will known as OpenBeak.

Personally, I like the name TwitterBerry since it pretty much tells you exactly what the applications is and does.  My guess, however, is that the name change comes because of trademarked name infringments.  Research in Motion doesn’t allow any applications with the word “Berry” in their name on BlackBerry Appworld.

OpenBeak features include:

  • Post updates to Twitter, including a character countdown from 140 characters
  • One-click access to view friends timelines, replies, your favorites, your own timeline, and the public timeline
  • Post pictures to Zannel, TwitPic, Twitgoo, or yfrog
  • Take a picture with a one-click embedded camera (BlackBerry® Device Software version 4.6+)
  • Reply to tweets from each timeline view
  • Send and receive direct messages
  • Mark tweets as favorites
  • Notification icon that indicates the number of unread messages, like new emails or missed calls (BlackBerry® Device Software version 4.6+)
  • Cache all avatar images to internal memory, thus saves network access and helps faster loading
  • Search Twitter with a keyword or from a list of currently trending topics
  • Active text recognition of @usernames and #hashtags
  • New Setup wizard
  • Two modes of list views: a “fixed height” view and a “variable height” view

OpenBeak is a free BlackBerry application and you can pick it up OTA by pointing your devices BlackBerry browser to http://m.openbeak.com

Hey folks, 47 of you have known about our RIMarkable Twitter account for some time even though we’ve never publicized it before, however, we’ve decided to get with the times and 1. let the masses know that we even have a Twitter account and 2. actually start using it.

I have to admit even though I have been blogging for quite some time that I am a novice when it comes to the whole Twitter phenomenon. I’ve been messing around with Twitter for the passed couple of months or so and I am absolutely hooked. Ever since I got my BlackBerry Storm TwitterBerry is one of the applications that I use most.

I run accross BlackBerry related news and just plain cool stuff in general all the time that don’t warrant a full post but are perfect for a mirco post via twitter.  Twitter also gives you guys a way to send me stuff and even communicate amongst yourselves in a way that comments don’t allow.

So, with all that being said, if you uses Twitter, follow us at http://www.twitter.com/RIMarkable.
