Rumor: BlackBerry PlayBook Slated For A February Launch

November 10, 2010 by Robb Dunewood Leave a Comment

According to Jay Alvi, executive vice president of Enterprise Services at Telecommunication Services of Trinidad & Tobago (TSTT), the BlackBerry PlayBook is slated to be released in February of 2011.  There have been rumors floating around that we would see the PlayBook in Q1 of next year, and, this tidbit out of TSTT lines up, but, with only 60,000 BlackBerry users on their network, we are going to leave the February 2011 BlackBerry PlayBook launch in the rumor category.

Rumor: Amazon MP3 For BlackBerry App Mentioned In Leaked RIM Document

October 15, 2010 by Robb Dunewood Leave a Comment

The Amazon MP3 for BlackBerry app, previously rumored to be announced at DevCon 2010, is mentioned in the recently leaked BlackBerry Enterprise Server 5 SP3 release notes suggesting that the application is near release.  We don’t know much about Amazon’s MP3 for BlackBerry app but it could be a viable “iTunes Store of sorts” for BlackBerry users.

RIM’s BES 5.0.3 release notes call Amazon MP3 for BlackBerry a “RIM Value Added Application,” and the document specifies that BlackBerry administrators will be able to disable the app via BES. The release notes also mention that Amazon MP3 for BlackBerry will work on RIM smartphones running BlackBerry OS 5.0 or higher, so it won’t be restricted to RIM’s latest OS, BlackBerry 6.

Rumor: BlackBerry Storm3 Coming Late Novemeber

October 14, 2010 by Robb Dunewood 25 Comments

According to note from analysis firm Jefferies & Co., the BlackBerry Storm3, not the BlackBerry Storm2 9570 refresh that was cancelled, but the real Blackberry Storm3,  should hit a wireless carrier near you by the end of Novemeber.  The note states that the BlackBerry Storm3 will run BlackBerry 6 and will not have the “clickity click” haptic touch screen.  (It will be like the screen on the iPhone and the BlackBerry Torch)

Rumor: BlackBerry Bold 9780 Hitting Virgin Mobile In Canada Oct. 21st

October 6, 2010 by Robb Dunewood Leave a Comment

Word on the street is that the BlackBerry Bold 9780 Refresh will be released on Virgin Mobile in Canada on the 21st of October.  The BlackBerry Bold 9870 will cost $149.99 on a three-year contract, $549.99 unsubsidized, and come running BlackBerry 6.

One could easily assume that, if this rumor is true, the Bold 9780 will hit other Canadian wireless carriers around this time as well.  We wonder how long it will be before we see this device Stateside?

BlackBerry PlayBook Not Launching This Year Due To “Technical Difficulties”

October 5, 2010 by Robb Dunewood 9 Comments

There is no question the the big news out of DevCon 2010 last week was the announcement of the BlackBerry PlayBook, RIM’s first attempt at a table device.  The BlackBerry PlayBook had been rumored for months to be coming out by the holiday season this year, however, Rodman & Renshaw analyst Ashok Kumar says that RIM aborted 2010 BlackBerry PlayBook launch plans due to “technical issues”.

In a research note, Kumar contends the company’s new QNX Neutrino software platform “was not ready for prime time.” He also says that the Marvell (MRVL) Armada 610 application processor the company had planned to use was “bug ridden.” Kumar says the company has “jettisoned” Marvell from the PlayBook in favor of a processor from Texas Instruments.

BlackBerry Bold 9650: Big New Hit, Or, Same Old…

April 20, 2010 by Robb Dunewood 13 Comments

You know how the saying goes…  I am just not feeling the new BlackBerry Bold 9650 rumored to be officially announced next week at WES and launched in May.  What will the new Bold 9650 do that most other BlackBerry devices with full QWERTY keyboards won’t do?  I am sure there is something, but, is it really enough warrant buying another device?

I may pass on the the BlackBerry Bold 9650 just like I passed on the BlackBerry Storm2.  What else do you have coming out RIM?
