Google Nexus One

If there is one thing that you can say about Google, they don’t tend to hang on to bad ideas very long.  They have decided to stop selling the Nexus One online.  The question for me, however, is, if the Web Store is a bad idea, or, just a horribly implemented one?

My money is on the later, but, Google has decided to just scrap their Web Store and focus on selling devices directly through the carriers and retail stores. One has to wonder if the Google Nexus One will end up being the Google Nexus Only One?

Verizon Droid BOGO Sale

Verizon has just launched a new Buy One Get One (BOGO) sale on the Motorola Droid and the HTC Droid Eris.  Each device will set you back $179.99 and $79.99 respectively, however, if you purchase one, you can get a second device for free…  Along with a 2-year service agreement, of course.

I wonder if they are trying to move a bit of stock to make way for the Google Nexus One rumored to make its debut on Verizon by months end?

Google Nexus One

If you are thinking of getting a subsidized Google Nexus One be sure to read the fine print in the contract because it will cost you a grip to cancel early.  Not only will you have to pay a $200 early termination fee to T-Mobile, Google has their own version of an ETF called an Equipment Recovery Fee which is an additional $350.

You’ll end up spending significantly more to cancel your plan than it would to just buy the device unlocked and unsubsidized up front.

Research in Motion does a heck of a lot of advertising (at least they did up until today) of various BlackBerry devices via Google Adwords, however, I’ve noticed that Nexus One ads were plastered all over the internet today in places where BlackBerry ads used to appear.  It got me to thinking, how is RIM supposed outbid Google on Google’s ad network?

Looks  like I’m not the only one noticing this either…
