Flickr for BlackBerry Smartphones

We mention just the other day that Research in Motion was planning to discontinue flickr for BlackBerry based on a KB article that may have inadvertently hit their website and pulled down as quickly as it went up.  Well, the cat is officially out of the bag, as, that KB article is back confirming what, for the most part, we already knew.

RIM suggests that users of flickr for BlackBerry start using the mobile site, http://m.flickr.com after March 1st when access to the BlackBerry client will be discontinued.

Does this mean that Research in Motion is discontinuing flickr?  It certainly looks that way.  Hopefully RIM will announce a viable alternative before the nix flickr.  March 1st is still several weeks away, so, if you want to check flickr, out, head over to BlackBerry App World and pick it up…

BlackBerry maker, Research in Motion has released a free BlackBerry application that allows BlackBerry users to upload photos directly from their BlackBerry to their Flickr accounts. The free BlackBerry download is cleverly named Flickr for BlackBerry Smartphones.

I just downloaded Flickr for BlackBerry Smartphones onto my 8130 and I have to admit the the app is pretty slick. You have to the ability to upload pictures to the proper album, tag your pictures, resize them, and even geotag your pictures if your BlackBerry is equipped with GPS.

I am going to go out on a limb and say that if you have a BlackBerry with a camera on it and a Flickr account, you should just download Flickr for BlackBerry Smartphones. You can do so OTA and you can’t beat the price.
