The folks at #TeamBlackBerry, via the Inside BlackBerry blog, have released their top 5 BlackBerry apps list, however, it is unclear if this list is of top 5 BlackBerry apps available from RIM, or, just top 5 apps in general. All the apps listed: BBM, Email, Twitter, BlackBerry Camera, and Facebook are all apps developed by RIM, but, I don’t want to make any assumptions.

A BlackBerry Forums member, while poking around Facebook security settings on their PC, came across a setting for Facebook for BlackBerry Smartphones which enables you to login to Facebook Chat. We aren’t sure how long that setting has been their, however, we are sure that it hasn’t always been there.
Facebook for BlackBerry Smartphones 1.8 is currently in closed beta. We haven’t heard Facebook Chat being part of the beta, however, we wonder if maybe Facebook Chat will be added to 1.8 before it is officially released.

One of the more popular BlackBerry downloads out there is Facebook for BlackBerry Smartphones, which I believe has been downloaded several million times. As popular as Facebook for BlackBerry is, it was not without it intricacies.
The word “is” was hard coded into the status screen so whenever you wanted to change your status, the word “is” was always included after your name. Needless to say this annoyed all but 14 of the BlackBerry users that downloaded Facebook for BlackBerry.
To the 14 Facebook for BlackBerry using folks that actually like the hard coded “is” in the status screen, you can stop reading here. For everyone else, we are happy to report that the latest version of Facebook for BlackBerry comes without the hard coded “is”.
You can download the latest version of Facebook for BlackBerry OTA directly to your device right from the Mobile BlackBerry Home Page by visiting http://mobile.blackberry.com from your device’s BlackBerry Browser.
If you head over to DiscoverBlackBerry.com, the main BlackBerry site for individual consumers, you will see that the homepage, at the time of this post, is dominated by Facebook for BlackBerry.
The application has been out for a few months now. Are BlackBerry users really using it? Although I have an account, I really don’t use Facebook. A Linked In client for BlackBerry would be much more useful to me, but, I digress.
Does Facebook for BlackBerry deserve all the hype it’s getting?
Berryreview found a knowledge base article in the BlackBerry Technical Solution Center that is more a less a comparison of the differences of the the Facebook for BlackBerry smartphones application and the Facebook Mobile site.
Believe it or not, one of the questions asked most often when we first posted about the Facebook for BlackBerry smartphones application was how did it differ from the the Facebook WAP site.
It looks like RIM was listening….
