I initially heard on Squawk Box this morning that the BlackBerry Tablet may not be introduced at BlackBerry Devcon today, and, it would appear, that BGR has confirmed this. According to BGR’s source, Mike Lazaridis will focus on the next generation tablet OS platform, however, won’t focus on any hardware. ”It would be unlikely for RIM to announce the mysterious tablet device during a developer event…”

There have been rumors of the BlackBerry Tablet, BlackPad, SurfBook, or whatever RIM is going to call it, floating around for months. The device is scheduled to be released in the 4th quarter this year and the Wall Street Journal says that the Tablet will be announced next week at BlackBerry DevCon in San Francisco.
For those of you that didn’t know, Research in Motion is rumored to be working on a BlackBerry Tablet. Details on the device have been sketchy thus far but RIM has snatched the domain name BlackPad.com. We just learned today that RIM has also recently filed a trademark application for the term SurfBook. Personally, I like SurfBook a little better… It clearly tells you what the device does and it doesn’t immediately make you think that it is RIM’s version of the iPad.

Although we probably won’t definitively find out if RIM is going to officially name the BlackBerry 9800 Slider BlackBerry Torch until next Tuesday, the odds of this being the case look pretty good. We’ve been hearing all summer that the 9800 Slider would be named BlackBerry Torch and RIM has recently registered the domain name BlackBerryTorch.com
RIM has also snagged the domain name BlackPad.com presumably for the BlackBerry Tablet rumored to be released towards the end of this year or early next, however, we doubt that this is the name that they will go with.
Word on the street, quite literally, is that RIM has shelved Plans to release an Android powered tablet later this year and have shifted focus to a BlackBerry OS powered device for sometime in 2011.
Seriously?!?
