BlackBerry Storm 2

BlackBerry Storm vs. BlackBerry Storm 2

In what seems like the endless stream of BlackBerry Storm 2 videos coming out, the Storm 2 was pitted against the original BlackBerry Storm in a head-to-head face off.   You might actually be surprised by who comes out on top if, for whatever reason, you actually thought RIM would make a the Storm 2 suck more than the Storm did when it first came out.

Without even watching the video, you could probably guess that the Storm 2 trounces the Storm in every way, including aesthetics, inclusion of Wi-Fi, increased memory, and an UI, however, for those of you that need to see for yourselves, you can watch the video after the jump.

Verizon BlackBerry Storm $49.99

Verizon is now offering the BlackBerry Storm 9530 for $49.99 on a 2-year service plan. This is 25% of what the device went for less than a year ago. The big takeaway for us, however, is that that Verizon often slashes prices on older model BlackBerry devices when they are clearing out inventory to make way for new devices.

There have been rumors floating around that the BlackBerry Storm will be available in the mid to late October time frame.  I would be willing to bet that the we start to see so of Verizon’s resellers cutting the price of the BlackBerry Storm down to zero…

AT&T BlackBerry Storm 2 (9520)

There have been a lot of videos of the BlackBerry Storm 2 floating around lately, but, this latest one confirms (sort of) a rumor that we have believed to be the case for some time.  The BlackBerry Storm 2 is coming out in a GSM variant on AT&T.

In addition to the BlackBerry Storm 9550 coming out on Verizon, a BlackBerry Storm 9520 will come out on AT&T.

Besides big news about the Storm 2 coming in a GSM variant, the touch screen on the device appears to be really awesome.  Yes, that even means better than the iPhone, which the AT&T version of the Storm 2 will get to go head to head against.

This isn’t the first video review of the BlackBerry Storm 2, but, it is probably the most detailed.  I cannot wait until I can get my hands on one of these…

BlackBerry Thunder

Remember the BlackBerry Thunder? That’s what we used to call the BlackBerry Storm before we found out that it was going to be called the BlackBerry Storm. Well, it would appear that the BlackBerry Thunder has reemerged in Verizon’s system. Our guess is that someone at Verizon is just having a little fun with the place holder for the BlackBerry Storm 2.

There had been rumors floating around that the BlackBerry Storm 2 could come out as early as this month and that it would definitely be out by the end of June, however those dreams have been dashed as Lowell McAdams, the top executive for the venture of Verizon Communications Inc and Vodafone Group Plc, officially stated in a webcast earlier today that the BlackBerry Storm 2 would come out on Verizon in about 6 months.

This pushes a release of the the next touch screen only BlackBerry to a late Fall if not early Winter release at the earliest.  I just hope that Verizon certifies an OS update for the original BlackBerry Storm before then…

BlackBerry Storm 2 On-Hands Review

The folks over at Engadget Mobile recently got the opportunity to spend a few minutes with the BlackBerry Storm 2 which was recently rumored to be coming out by the end of June.  Engadget has a video of their hands-on time with the Storm 2, however, you won’t really see much more than you see here in this picture as the device isn’t working.

The major differences between the BlackBerry Storm 2 and the original BlackBerry Storm is the lack of the clickable SurePress keyboard.

The display is a capacitive number, and it’s definitely not SurePress, at least in the traditional sense; there’s nary a click to be found. In fact, it behaves rather like the iPhone’s screen as far as scrolling and even texture of the surface is concerned.

Additionally, the four physical buttons accross the bottom of the original Storm have been replaced by 4 soft buttons that are part of the touch screen.
