Yesterday I started hearing that some BlackBerry users were having problems with delayed messages on Twitter, email, and browsing the web. Rumors that Research in Motion was having some type of outage started to spread, but, as it turns out, there was actually a problem with the internet…
There was a global Internet issue this morning that impacted a number of Internet Service Providers (ISP) around the world. RIM’s BlackBerry Infrastructure was not impacted however, some customers may have experienced delays with their ISP. RIM continues to monitor the situation.
Last week Research in Motion suffered the biggest BlackBerry outage in company history which affected most of Earth for the better part of 3 days. To show it’s appreciation for their patience, RIM is offering over $100 in premium BlackBerry software to BlackBerry users for free. Starting Wednesday, users will be able to download the following list of BlackBerry app from BlackBerry App World, which, will become available for download over the next 4 weeks.

RIM just can’t buy a break these days. The BlackBerry outage in EMEA has moved into day three and it appears that it has spread to North and South America…
The question is “Is there some type of BlackBerry outage right now?”, and the answer is, “Yes, there is”.
According to Data Outages News, all North American carriers are experiencing issues affecting BIS and BES only, on what appears to be devices with Wi-Fi. “Data works sometimes when connected via WiFi; no data when WiFi is disconnected.”
As much as I love my BlackBerry, RIM’s implementation of BIS is a joke. We are now amidst the third BlackBerry outage in less than a week. I am beginning to wonder if I weren’t a BES user if I would still be BlackBerry user at all.
To be honest, I am actually kind of amazed that all the BIS outages that RIM has had over the passed three years or so haven’t been more detrimental to the company. Can you imagine if one of the wireless carriers had 3 major outages in a week and regularly had a major out or two every few months?
There were numerous reports yesterday from BlackBerry users around the world that they weren’t able to send and receive emails, PINs, or use BlackBerry Messenger. It would appear that there was a massive worldwide BlackBerry Internet Service outage yesterday affecting, pretty much, everyone.
As many outages as RIM has had you would think that they would be better at handling them then they are. Notifiy your customer base. Let BlackBerry users know that there is something going wrong and that you are working to correct the problem. You have an official BlackBerry blog for crying out loud.
There is no doubt that just about every BlackBerry blog out there is going to have something about your BIS outage posted today. It makes no sense that your own blog says nothing. The BIS outage itself makes you look bad. Being so closed lipped about it makes you look inept.
I have gotten a bunch of Tweets from BlackBerry users accross all carriers saying that BlackBerry Messenger is down and that they cannot send PIN to PIN messages.
Is RIM having yet another outage?
