BlackBerry Bold 9700 Refresh

Rumors of a new device code named the Blackberry Onyx Delta are starting to float around and raising questions as they do.  First, what is a BlackBerry Onyx Delta.  Second, why is the code name BlackBerry Onyx being used again?

BlackBerry Leaks believes that the BlackBerry Onyx Delta may actually be the BlackBerry Bold 9700a.  The Bold 9700a was initially thought to be the BlackBerry Slider, but, we know now that the Slider is the Bold 9800.

We’re told that the (Bold) 9700a is going to be a refreshed Bold 9700 with upgraded hardware and features. The 9700a will supposedly sport:

  • 5MP camera
  • 512 MB RAM
  • BlackBerry OS 6.0
  • New webkit browser

It looks like RIM is just getting the BlackBerry Bold 9700 on par with the Bold 9650 so it actually makes sense that RIM would reuse the code Name Blackberry Onyx and denote the upgrade by appending Delta.

T-Mobile BlackBerry Bold 9700

There have been numerous leaked shots of the BlackBerry Bold 9700, a.k.a. BlackBerry Onyx, to hit the web, however, we believe this is the first official picture of the T-Mobile BlackBerry Bold 9700.

T-Mobile sent the image above along with the following blurb to CIO.com’s Al Sacco…

The BlackBerry ‘Onyx’ sports a premium experience and design with a high-gloss black finish and leather grain detail on the back. Boasting features such as high-speed 3G Web browsing, Wi-Fi calling, visual voicemail and support for corporate and personal e-mail options, the ‘Onyx’ will satisfy all your on-the-go needs. Also the phone comes preloaded with mobile applications from BlackBerry App World, including Amazon MP3 store for quick and easy music downloads and TeleNav GPS Navigator for turn-by-turn directions.

Post image for BlackBerry 9020, a.k.a Onyx, Spotted With Leather Battery Cover

This latest shot of the BlackBerry 9020, or, what we have come to know as the BlackBerry Onyx, is looking a lot like its older cousin, the BlackBerry Bold.  We believe this to be one of, if not the, first pictures of the BlackBerry 9020 shown with a leather battery cover, something made popular by the BlackBerry Bold.

I wonder if the proper name of the 9020 will actually be BlackBerry Bold 9020? Seeing how there are three different models of the BlackBerry Curve, I wouldn’t be shocked if this turns out to be the case.

BlackBerry Onyx Gets A TrackPad

It has been rumored that the yet to be officially announced BlackBerry Onyx that should be coming out on T-Mobile around Septemeber would get an optical TrackPad instead of the trackball that has been standard on BlackBerry devices going back to the Blackberry 8800.  Judging by this picture of the BlackBerry Onyx next to is cousin, the BlackBerry Gemini, it looks like the rumors were correct.
