Research in Motion today, at CES 2012, has officially unveiled BlackBerry OS 7.1 which brings a familiar look and feel to existing BlackBeryr 7 devices, but, ads Mobile HotSpot support, NFC Tag support, and FM radio support to select BlackBerry Curve models.
Along with the BlackBerry 7.1 update, BlackBerry Messenger, BlackBerry Travel, and BlackBerry Traffic have been updated as well.

BlackBerry Messenger has been updated to v6.0.1 and, if not already, will soon be available for download in BlackBerry App World.
BlackBerry Messenger 6.0.1 features include:
- Explore BBM-connected Apps – BBM users will now be able to pull up “Explore BBM-connected Apps” from a menu in the BBM Contacts screen, which starts a BlackBerry App World storefront search for “BBM” by redirecting users to a list of up to 25 of the most popular BBM-connected apps available.
- Sharing App Content with Your BBM Contacts is Easier – Users can share app-specific content with BBM contacts regardless of whether the contact has the app installed.
- Include BBM v5.0 users in application invites – Now users can now invite BBM v5.0 & BBM v6.0 contacts to join in the fun and share BBM-connected app experiences.
It turns out that the rumor that BlackBerry PlayBook OS 2.0 was delayed until February true, and, as has been the case lately with RIM, the reality for RIM turns out to be worse than the rumor. Not only is BlackBerry PlayBook OS 2.0 not coming out until Feb., it will not include native BBM support.

BlackBerry Messenger has received an update to version 6.0.0.129 and is now available for download via BlackBerry App World. We haven’t seen a change log for BlackBerry Messenger v6.0.0.129, however, “Show What I’m Listening To” is back.
BlackBerry Messenger 6, which features the new BBM Social Platform allowing developers to add social Super App features to their applications, is finally out of beta and now available via BlackBerry App World.
BBM v6.0 features include:
- Support for the BBM Social Platform (Invite Friends, Update User Profiles, Chat and Share Content from within other applications)
- Enhanced Location Sending with customized search and sharing
- Send events and appointments to BBM contacts
- Draft BBM message support
- Updated support for sending links, podcasts, location in BBM Groups
BlackBerry Messenger 6 is available in BlackBerry App World
A week ago Foursquare for BlackbBerry v3.0 hit the scene, but, without the BlackBerry Messenger integration that we saw when while in alpha. Today, however, Foursquare for BlackBerry v3.1 has been released and BlackBerry Messenger integration is back. The Foursquare for BlackBerry 3.1 change log indicates a few incremental updates to the user interface and application performance, so, you should probably download it even if you don’t care about the BBM integration.
