Tru, Formerly Truphone, Launches Global Roaming Number Solution For BlackBerry Users

January 24, 2011 by Robb Dunewood Leave a Comment

Tru, formerly known as Truphone before rebranding back in December, has launched a global mobile network solution for business BlackBerry users that allows it customers to pay local rates when traveling internationally instead of high roaming charges.

With Tru, your business travellers can travel the world and instead of roaming charges, you will only pay local rates for calls, texts and data. How have we managed this? By creating the world’s first global phone network.

BlackBerry service plans include:

  • Data, voice and text bundles which can be used across Tru’s Network providing over 80% savings on published operator roaming rates
  • European voice bundles usable across 30 countries offering savings of between 30% and 60% on calls between Europe and the rest of the Tru Network
  • Unlimited free email access within the Tru Network
  • Local numbers for any or all of the countries within the Tru Network

Find out more about Tru by visiting their website and download the BlackBerry application on BlackBerry App World…

Poynt For BlackBerry Updated — Adds Local Event Features In North America

January 12, 2011 by Robb Dunewood Leave a Comment

Poynt for BlackBerry, in my opinion one of the greatest BlackBerry applications of all time, has recently been updated and now includes local event features which allow North American users to search for local events by performer, venue, date, or category directly from within the app.

Press Release

Poynt Adds Events Feature Providing Even More Relevant Local Content for North American Smartphone Users

Poynt App for BlackBerry Smartphones and Android Adds New Local Events Feature Powered by Eventful

CALGARY, ALBERTA–(Marketwire – Jan. 11, 2011) – Poynt Corporation (“Poynt Corp.” or the “Company”)(TSX VENTURE:PYN), a leading provider of mobile local search services, today announced the addition of Events to the Poynt local search app (“Poynt” or the “App”). The new Events feature is now available for BlackBerry® smartphones and Android devices in the United States and Canada.

The new Events feature displays current and upcoming local events, as well as detailed event information, including turn-by-turn directions. With this update, Poynt users on BlackBerry smartphones and Android devices have the added benefit of quick and accessible local event listings simply by selecting the Events icon displayed on the App’s home screen. Poynt provides users with up to the minute event listings and details through its content partner Eventful, the leading digital media company connecting 20 million consumers to local events.

The new Events feature allows users to search by performer, event or venue nearby, by event date or by category, including festivals, concerts and sporting events. Users can then view details such as maps, photos, browse websites, view seating charts and get detailed performer information. As well, users can add events to their device calendar or send details to friends.

Poynt harnesses the power of multiple applications in one intuitive package. Users can search for businesses and retailers, gas stations, people, local weather, find movies and buy tickets, find restaurants and reserve a table, and now stay connected with local events. Poynt allows users to go one step further–mapping locations, adding results to calendar or emailing results to friends without exiting the application.

“Events are the heart and soul of local communities everywhere and we are excited to make this enhancement to Poynt’s robust feature set by giving users access to this information,” said Andrew Osis, CEO, Poynt Corp. “The new Events feature is key to our vision of bringing the user a true all-in-one local search experience.”

“We are pleased that Poynt has chosen to utilize Eventful’s data to power their new Events feature,” said Jordan Glazier, CEO of Eventful.” The continued integration of local event content into the mobile experience allows consumers to access the information they need in new and exciting ways.”

The new version of Poynt is immediately available for download for BlackBerry smartphones and Android devices via Over the Air download at m.poynt.com or from their respective app stores.

Poynt is a free application and is now available to BlackBerry, Android, iPhone, and Windows Phone 7 users in Canada, United States, Australia, Germany, the United Kingdom, Italy, France, and Spain.

BlackBerry App World 2.1 Beta Available In BlackBerry Beta Zone

January 6, 2011 by Robb Dunewood Leave a Comment

BlackBerry App World 2.1 Beta is now available in BlackBerry Beta Zone and ready for download. New features include:

  • In-app Payments – App World 2.1 includes support for in-app payments.  How does this change the way you interact with certain paid applications as a developer or as a consumer?
  • Filtered Featured Items – Once you open this latest version of App World, you’ll notice that Featured Items are seemingly more relevant to you.  Well, we decided to change this functionality based on the feedback we received from you during the App World 2.0 Beta Program.  Featured Items are now filtered by carrier and country to ensure that you are presented with the most relevant apps as soon as you open App World.
  • Extended BBID Login Session – We heard what you had to say during the App World 2.0 Beta Program last summer and decided to make some changes to the BBID functionality in App World.  With this latest release, a single BBID login session lasts for 20 minutes, making it easier for you to download and install as many apps as you’d like in one go.  Please remember that during the 20 minute BBID login session,  you will not be prompted again for your BlackBerry ID to complete a purchase.  If your BlackBerry smartphone gets in the hands of someone else, they could make a purchase that you’re not aware of.

If you’d like to download BlackBerry App World 2.1 Beta, head over to BlackBerry Beta Zone…
