Believe it or not, the BlackBerry 8700 is up for an MTV award. MTV2 is running an “All That Rocks” promotion and the BlackBerry 8700, along with the Sony PSP, and the Video Ipod, are nominees in the Most Critical Hardware category.
You will have to tune into MTV2 on July 30th at 9:00 P.M. to see if the BlackBerry 8700 wins.

Rev. Run from the iconic hip group Run D.M.C. and now the hit MTV series Run’s House is known for delivering his “Words of Wisdom” via his BlackBerry from his Bathtub.
Well, it looks like Rev Run has upgraded from his BlackBerry 7100 used in season one to a BlackBerry 8700, seen several times in episode one of season two.
It doesn’t look like Rev Run will ever suffer from BlackBerry thumb as he has an odd way of holding his BlackBerry that allows him to use his index fingers instead of his thumbs as can be seen in the picture on the left.

Independent software developer Alex King really wants to use his BlackBerry 8700 as a modem for his Mac. In fact, he has started a bounty, currently at $60, for anyone who can develop a way to tether a BlackBerry 8700 to a Mac running OS X.
As far as I can tell, no one has yet come up with a way to tether a BlackBerry 8700 to a Mac (running Mac OS X) to use it as a modem. This works on the PC, so its likely a matter of reverse engineering to get it working on OS X.
Alex is throwing $50 of his own money into the pot. If you would like to contribute to the bounty,”PayPal some cash”, to Alex and he will add it to bounty.

If you had been watching various BlackBerry news releases yesterday, you would have seen that the BlackBerry 8700 series devices are pretty horrible when it comes to video playback. They can do it, but, pail in comparison to oh, lets say, about everything else.
Well, according to the BlackBerry maker co-CEO, Mike Lazaridis, Research in Motion meant for it to be that way…

I was just reading a market scan on Forbes.com about disappointing BlackBerry 8700 sales. I am taking it with a grain of salt however… Piper Jaffray analyst T. Michael Walkley is blaming flat to down BlackBerry sales at Verizon on the fact that the Treo 700w outsold the BlackBerry 8700. (I would think so seeing how Verizon doesn’t carry a BlackBerry 8700)
Walkley states that “Research in Motion has failed to deliver on hopes for near-term growth due to increasing competition that could drive lower margins on devices and slow down earnings growth in 2007“. That is probably true, but, let me really tell you why the BlackBerry 8700 doesn’t sell as well as you think.

We were so excited to tell you that there was a new BlackBerry that forgot to mention and specs on the device, so, for those of you that are wondering what is different about the BlackBerry 8707v, we are about to tell you.
The main difference between that BlackBerry 8707v and the 8700 models is that inclusion of 3G IP modem. That doesn’t mean a lot to those of us in the States, but, for those European CrackBerry addicts fortunate enough to get their hands on one of these puppies will have incredibly fast broadband connections.

Rumor has it hat RIM has a new BlackBerry 870x model in the works and it is called the BlackBerry 8707v.
Remember that you saw it here first… Or maybe second, or third… Well, just remember that you saw it here.
Many thanks go to Simon from Adam Phones who sent us a link to the airtime manager site right after RIM said it was ok to start talking about it.
We have more pictures below…

We’ve heard a lot of reliable rumors that T-Mobile will be releasing their branded BlackBerry 8700 here in the U.S. in just a few weeks, however, the jury is still out on what the model number will be.
Will it be the BlackBerry 8700t? Will it be the Blackberry 8700g? We have been asking this question for a while. Looks like we will find out around April 13th for sure.
