Get a Free BlackBerry Pearl from Vodafone

by Robb Dunewood on October 31, 2006 · 0 comments

Looks like the BlackBerry Pearl is now available in the UK from Vodafone. What’s even better is that the Pearl won’t cost you anything on most plans.

Vodafone is running some type of “6 Months Half Price” plan that allows you to get a free BlackBerry Pearl on what looks like all 18 month plans that have more than 75 Anytime minutes.

Cingular BlackBerry Pearl Sneak Peek

by Robb Dunewood on October 31, 2006 · 0 comments

Engadget Mobile has recently put up a pic of the Cingular Blackberry Pearl. The major difference seems to be that the Cingular variant has broken up the all black keypad found on the T-Mobile version, with a streak of grey on down the middle over top the numeric portion of the keyboard.

I probably need to see a much higher resolution picture of the Cingular BlackBerry Pearl to be sure, however, I think that I like the T-Mobile all black version better.

3 Must Have BlackBerry Pearl Accessories

by Robb Dunewood on October 29, 2006 · 4 comments

There is no doubt that the hottest smartphone on the market right now is the BlackBerry Pearl from Research in Motion and T-Mobile. This little device is almost single handedly responsible for skyrocketing RIM’s stock price (ticker RIMM) up over $110 per share.

The BlackBerry Pearl is small, cute, takes pictures, and allows you to listen to MP3s and although it comes out of the box with everything that you need to run, there are a few things that you should just pick up with it while your in the T-Mobile store.

Here is my list of 3 must have BlackBerry Pearl Accessories

When I woke up this morning I had this in my inbox…

“The BlackBerry Pearl has the new BlackBerry OS 4.2 which supports a better Bluetooth GPS integration.”Spot for Blackberry” is one of the first programs which fully supports this new feature to guarantee very accurate and stable GPS positions.”

I have never used Spot for BlackBerry, however, I have a few friends who are avid GeoCachers and say that Spot for the PC and Treo are pretty good.

If you have a Bluetooth GPS receiver and and a BlackBerry Pearl you may want to give Spot for BlackBerry the once over. You can get a free trial version of the software here.

Vodafone to carry the BlackBerry Pearl in the UK

by Robb Dunewood on October 4, 2006 · 1 comment

Although not available for sale just yet, you can pre-order a BlackBerry Pearl on Vodafone UK’s site. The device appears to be identical to the T-Mobile version sold here in the U.S. less the classic Vodafone looking theme and logo.

According to the site pricing for the Vodafone BlackBerry Pearl ranges from free all the way up to £212.77.

Where is all the BlackBerry Pearl Marketing?

by Robb Dunewood on September 20, 2006 · 4 comments

It has been just over a week since the launch of the BlackBerry Pearl and I have just one question… Where is all of the BlackBerry Pearl marketing?

I was just thinking about the marketing blitz Verizon did when they released the Motorola Q. You could not go twenty minutes on any of the cable news networks that cover financial news without seeing a commercial about the Motorola Q. Demand for the Q is so great that Motorola thinks they may sell 10 million Qs in its first year of existence. To put that in perspective, RIM has yet to sign up 10 million BlackBerry subscribers and it has been around since ‘98.

That being said, I will ask my question again… Where is all of the BlackBerry Pearl marketing?

Will you switch carriers just to get a BlackBerry Pearl?

by Robb Dunewood on September 11, 2006 · 16 comments

Tomorrow’s release of the BlackBerry Pearl on T-Mobile marks the beginning of a new era of multimedia enabled BlackBerry devices for Research in Motion. Although there have been rumors that a Cingular branded BlackBerry Pearl could hit shelves as soon as October, it will be quite some time before the Pearl, or, any CameraBerry for that matter, is offered by the CDMA carriers Verizon and Sprint.

The question that I have is for those of you that really want a Pearl but are on networks that won’t have it for a while. Will you switch carriers just to get a BlackBerry Pearl?

BlackBerry Pearl Advertising showing up on blogs…

by Robb Dunewood on September 8, 2006 · 2 comments

I have been wondering how Research in Motion would market the BlackBerry Pearl now that they have let the world know about it officially. Well, it looks like part of their plan is to stick with the blogs that have been talking about the Pearl for the passed 2 or 3 months.

I have been blogging about BlackBerrys for two years now and this is the first time that I have ever seen an ad from Research in Motion show up on a blog. Don’t get me wrong, there are plenty of BlackBerry advertisements on blogs out there, however, this is the first time the I ever remember seeing a Google Ad from Research in Motion themselves. www.BlackBerryPearl.com is the official BlackBerry Pearl Website by RIM.

I dare say that the consumer oriented marketing campaign has begun. Do you think that we will start seeing BlackBerry Pearl TV commercials like we did with the Treo and the Motorola Q?

The BlackBerry Pearl’s Media Player Sucks!

by Robb Dunewood on September 7, 2006 · 30 comments

With the Blackberry Pearl being the first CameraBerry and RIM’s first dabble into multimedia, I tried to come up with a nice way to say that Pearl’s Media Player is less than desirable and to make sure that RIMarkable readers know that I am very excited about the release next week. The best that I could come up with is that the BlackBerry Pearls Media Player sucks!

I was just saying the other day that RIM and Apple should come out with iTunes for the BlackBerry. You would think, however, that the developers of the BlackBerry Pearl’s Media Player, which would have seemed outdated 5 or 6 years ago, have never even heard of an iPod.

I just watched a video where Research in Motion co-CEO Mike Lazaridis said that they have been working on the BlackBerry Pearl for the last three years. If this is true, I urge you to go out and hire a few new developers and designers that own iPods as quickly as you possibly can…
