BlackBerry 7130e

I just got a new accessory to go with my brand new BlackBerry 7130e and as you can see from the picture to the right, it is a brand new Bluetooth wireless headset, the Jabra JX10 Bluetooth headset to be exact. All I can say is that I absolutely love this thing.

The JX10 is the smallest headset that I have ever seen and it weighs less than 1/3 of an ounce. In fact it is so small that you don’t even have to use the ear hook. You can just stick it in your ear like earbud headphones.

Digital sound enhancement via DSP automatically adjusts volume and microphone sensitivity to help filter out background noise. The JX10 gets about 6 hours of talk time and can be charged with an AC adapter or from your PC with a USB adapter.

I don’t do very many product reviews here on RIMarkable, however, if you have $170 bucks burning a hole in your pocket next time you are walking around Best Best, I definitely recommend the Jabra JX10.

I just upgraded my BlackBerry from a 7100t on T-Mobile to a 7130e on Verizon. Since I have a brand new BlackBerry I figure that I may as well get a brand new Bluetooth wireless headset too. The only problem is that I have no idea what headset to get. There are so many to choose from and they all seem great when you try them out in the store.

That being said, I could use a little help from all the CrackBerry addicts out there with a Bluetooth wireless headset. If you know of a model that I should take a look at or a model that I should stay away from, please leave a comment.

Over a year a go I decided to move towards the “candybar” style BlackBerry 7100 series devices because I like the more traditional cell phone form factor and not being a big fan of belt clips, could easily slip my 7100t into my pocket like I had always done with my cell phones. I was a big fan of being able to use a wireless headset as well. The 7100 series BlackBerry devices are the reason that I only carry one device these days.

Even though, however, I am a huge fan of the BlackBerry 7100 series, you are often reminded that your device is BlackBerry shaped like cell phone and not a cell phone with a BlackBerry built into it. Needless to say, key cell phone features are lacking. This is why I think that one of the new features on the BlackBerry 7130e is really cool. You can assign different ringtones to various contacts in your address book.

I never knew how much I liked custom ringtones until I no longer had them when I moved to my BlackBerry 7100t. I used to have 10 or 12 numbers that I set custom ringtones to and you kind of get used to knowing who is calling just by the sound of the ringtone. My new BlackBerry 7130e should be arriving any day now and I am sure that I will once again set custom ringtones for 10 or 12 of my contacts.

TELUS and Research in Motion today announced the availability of the BlackBerry 7130e operating on the TELUS national Wireless High Speed network.

The BlackBerry 7130e delivers all the popular communications and information capabilities available through the BlackBerry wireless platform, integrated in a traditional wireless phone form factor. The handset can also serve as a tethered modem for clients looking to connect their laptop computers to the Internet and other data networks at broadband speeds.

I haven’t payed paid intimate attention to every single BlackBerry release, however, I think that I am pretty safe when I say that no other BlackBerry launch has had as much hoopla surrounding it as did the BlackBerry 8700c. This is why it baffles me that the logistics surrounding the distribution of the BlackBerry 8700c was as poor as it was.

Once the 8700c was officially announced on Nov. 1st, we were told that the device would hit stores almost 3 weeks later on Nov. 21st. About a week before the first in-store date, we heard a rumor that the date was going to slip. The date did slip, however, we heard from a Cingular spokesman that the BlackBerry 8700c would be available on Black Friday in Best Buy and Cingular stores. I went to 6 different stores that should have had the 8700c but none of them did.

I only hope that the logistics around the availability of the BlackBerry 7130e are not as bad as the 8700c.

The BlackBerry 7130e will be available in stores soon and as we wait for it, I wonder if one of it’s features will fundamentally change how many of us CrackBerry addicts fundamentally use the BlackBerry.

This really cool feature that I am talking about is high-speed modem tethering. Tethering your BlackBerry to a laptop is not a new feature. In fact, I have done it many times with my T-mobile 7100t. The problem with the ‘old tether’ is that it is painfully slow. Slow like draining a swimming pool through a coffee straw. The ‘new tether’ on the other hand , using the new BlackBerry 7130e that runs on Verizon’s high speed EvDO network will offer broadband speeds of 400-700 KBs. This is like draining a pool by tipping it on its side and letting the water run out.

If you walk through any airport during the week it is fairly common to see dozens of business travelers head down in the BlackBerry prayer, thumbing away on their devices while their laptop sits idly by in the computer bag. Will we start to see more of these folks with their laptops open and the BlackBerry next to it allowing them not only to send and receive the same email that they get on the BlackBerry, but connect back to their office, surf the Internet with a full screen browser, or even play game of World of WarCraft online all from their laptop that has a fast Internet connection thanks to the high-speed modem tether?

Some would say that you could already do this if you had a wireless broadband card, however, many would argue the the expense of the card and the service weren’t worth it when you would still need to own a BlackBerry for those times when pulling your laptop out is not as convenient as when you are sitting in an airport. That argument goes away when you can add unlimited BroadBand Connect to your BlackBerry for as little as an additional $15 a month.

I am so… getting one of these when they come out.

Its official. The long rumored BlackBerry 7130e from Verizon has been released. I am so getting one of these. One of the coolest things about the BlackBerry 7130e is that you can tether it to your laptop to use it as a highspeed EvDO modem at speeds of 400-700 Kbs.

The BlackBerry 7130e supports complete functionality including:

  • Phone
  • Email
  • SMS
  • MMS (Multimedia Messaging Service)
  • Wireless Data Access
  • Address book
  • Internet Browser
  • Calendar
  • Memo Pad
  • Tasks

Additional features include: SureType, 64MB of memory, Bluetooth, Polyphonic ringtones, and much, much more.

TELUS Mobility just launched its national Wireless High Speed Network in 5 major urban areas across Canada and will offer typical download speeds of 400 to 700 kilobits per second.

The BlackBerry 7130e will be the first BlackBerry device on the TELUS network to take advantage of these speeds when it comes out later this year. The really cool thing is that you can tether your 7130e to your laptop to use it as a high speed modem.

The BlackBerry 7130e(tm) will offer complete BlackBerry functionality including support for phone, e-mail, Internet, text messaging, organizer and data applications, all in a compact traditional wireless phone form factor. The BlackBerry 7130e can also be used as a tethered modem to connect laptops to the Internet over TELUS Mobility’s Wireless High Speed network. The BlackBerry 7130e will be available to TELUS Mobility clients later this year.

I cannot wait until Verizon releases the BlackBerry 7130e here in the U.S. How cool will be to be able to kill an hour or two playing World of WarCraft while delayed in a plane on the tarmac for 2 hours?

BlackBerry insider and BlackBerry Cool reader, Mike, informs BlackBerry Cool that the BlackBerry 7130e from Verizon is to be officially announced next Monday, November 14th November 21st.

The new Blackberry 7130e is based off of the 7100 platform so it will include 240×260 65,000 color screen, SureType, Bluetooth, and 64mb of RAM. The major difference is the support of EV-DO to allow high speed broadband like download rates.

Personally, I have been eagerly awaiting the release of the BlackBerry 7130e. I am a big fan of of the ‘CandyBar’ BlackBerry form factor and love my 7100t howerver my corporate mobile plan is switching to Verizon. The big question that I have is will you be able to use the BlackBerry 7130e as a highspeed wireless modem for your laptop?
