RIMarkable reader Ben emailed us this morning informing us that his Verizon rep said that the BlackBerry 7130e is being discontinued.
We knew that this would happen eventually, however, we thought that it would be some time from now. The BlackBerry 7130e has been a personal favorite of mine since it’s release 2 and a half years ago.
If this rumor turns out to be true, a lot of BlackBerry users will be sad to see it go. Verizon can make everyone feel better, however, if they quickly come out with the BlackBerry Curve.
I’ve heard a few rumors recently that the BlackBerry 7130e is going “End of Life” at the end of October. This move by RIM is probably in anticipation of the release of the CDMA BlackBerry Pearl 2 that we’ve heard is coming to both Verizon and Sprint in November.
I personally use the Verizon BlackBerry 7130e, and, although it has been very good to me, am admittedly ready to upgrade to something new. I thought about moving to the 8703e and even the 8830, however, I am one of those crazy folks that absolutely loves SureType. The BlackBerry Pearl 2 can’t get here soon enough.
I work for a company where almost everyone carries some type of mobile smart device with them. The vast majority carry a BlackBerry and we are on a corporate Verizon plan. I would say that over the passed few months, a lot of my coworkers have switched from their BlackBerry 7250 or BlackBerry 7130e devices to the Motorola Q. Is there a trend starting?
Now, I should point out, I don’t work for a small company and I am not talking about just a few people here and there that have dropped their BlackBerrys for the Motorola Q. I have seen dozens of folks that have carried BlackBerry devices for years make the switch, most of whom admit that the Q is not as reliable as the BlackBerry, however, they have no intentions of coming back and almost all say that the Q isn’t that bad.

I am looking for an extended battery for my BlackBerry 7130e. My standard battery usually works for me on weekdays even, when I am traveling as I generally have either my laptop or my charger with me in my backpack. The weekends, however, are a different story.
I tend to talk on my BlackBerry a lot on the weekends and I use my Plantronics Bluetooth headset all the time that seems to really put a drain on the battery. Since I don’t tend to carry a bag full of chargers for me, that battery indicator gets pretty low by the end of the day.
I am looking for an extended BlackBerry 7130e battery that will get me at least 4 to 6 hours of talk time with my Bluetooth headset. If anyone has any experience with extend batteries please leave a comment.
Extended BlackBerry Battery
Sprint and Research in Motion today introduced the BlackBerry 7130e to Sprint’s BlackBerry lineup. We’ve known that a 7130 series BlackBerry was coming to Sprint for a while, however, we thought the device would be called the BlackBerry 7130i.

RIMarkable readers, I need your help. I am looking for a really good BlackBerry case, or skin as some would call it, for my BlackBerry 7130e. I have some special needs so not any old case will do.
I do not want anything with a belt clip as I always stick my BlackBerry into my pants pocket. I don’t want anything bulky either. If fact I am not sure that the perfect BlackBerry case for me would even be considered a case. It would be more like a skin that protects the screen and the edges of the BlackBerry from getting all scratched up while in my pocket.
If anyone has any suggestions on what I should take a look at, please leave a comment.
BlackBerry Case, BlackBerry Skin
Today must be the day for BlackBerry releases as Alltel has today announced that they have added the BlackBerry 7130e to their lineup. This is in addition to announcements from KPN and Mobistar who also released new devices to their BlackBerry offerings.
The BlackBerry 7130e operates on Alltel’s Axcess Broadband EV-DO network which supports Internet access at speeds up to 2.4 Mbps, enabling users to quickly view large, graphic-rich content. I own a Verizon BlackBerry 7130e and one of my favorite features is the ability to use it as a broadband modem for my laptop, however, I didn’t gather if this is supported on the Alltel version.
The BlackBerry 7130e is available in Alltel retail stores for $299.99 with a two-year service agreement. Customers who add a postpaid voice calling plan when purchasing the BlackBerry 7130e will receive unlimited data service for $44.99 per month. The unlimited data plan includes national data roaming at no extra charge when using this device.

I must say that my BlackBerry 7130e is probably the sweetest cell phone/ PDA that I have ever had. It doesn’t have all the bells and whistles that some of these Windows Mobile devices that are borderline “Tricorder from Star Trek”-like as far as the number of things it can do, however, for the things that it does do, it is absolutely wonderful.
Lets count some of the reasons I love it in no particular order…
- It’s small enough to fit into your pocket like a regular cellphone. I have never been a big fan of the belt clip holsters.
- It doesn’t look like you are talking into a stereo remote control when you hold it to your ear.
- I get my email on it.
- I can blog from it.
- It can use it as a Broadband modem for my laptop, i.e., I can play World of WarCraft while delayed at airport which seems to be more and more these days.
The BlackBerry 7130e is just a cool device and I am really liking it right now. I will say, however, that if RIM comes out with a BlackBerry with a camera and an MP3 player I will switch to it in a heartbeat. In fact I volunteer right now to be a beta tester and I will drum up interest in it like you wouldn’t believe.
I digress. I love my BlackBerry 7130e.
