BlackBerry 6

Skype and Verizon have had an exclusive relationship since the end of March 2010 so makes sense that Skype has announced official support for Verizon BlackBerry devices running BlackBerry 6.  If only, however, Verizon officially sold devices that run BlackBerry 6…  We know that RIM’s latest and and greatest BlackBerry operating system is coming to both the BlackBerry Bold 9650 and BlackBerry Curve 3G 9330, but, Verizon is sure taking their time when it comes to officially releasing it.

Verizon BlackBerry 6 Upgrade Guide

It seems like over the passed couple of weeks there have been several signs and indications that BlackBerry 6 upgrades for the BlackBerry Bold 9650 and the BlackBerry Curve 3G 9330 could drop any time.  More evidence indicating that the new OS could be coming soon are the BlackBerry 6 Upgrade Guides that have been showing up in Verizon Stores.

There is a really good editorial over on Engadget by tech editor Joanna Stern. I recently damaged my BlackBerry Storm and found myself in almost exactly the same situation. I wanted to buy a new BlackBerry, however, no BlackBerry exists that does all the things that, going by today’s standards, smartphones should do.

Check out “RIM seems to be as lost as my BlackBerry”…  It truly is a good read.

Leaked BlackBerry OS

It seems like BlackBerry 6 Leaks are coming out weekly these days.  OS 6.0.0.418 for the BlackBerry Bold 9700 has been  found online and is “currently” available for download.  As always, leaked BlackBerry software is completely unsupported by Research in Motion and your carrier, so, install with caution and make sure that you have a good back up of your device before you install…

Mike Lazaridis on BlackBerry 6

Earlier today we showed you the video of Research in Motion’s founder and co-CEO Mike Lazaridis  giving a live demo of the BlackBerry PlayBook at the Dive Into Mobile conference yesterday evening.  What may even be of more interest, however, are some of the comments he made during his time on stage with Kara Swisher and Walt Mossberg from All Things Digital…

Of particular note were Lazaridis’s comment’s on BlackBerry 6.  When asked about the latest incarnation of the BlackBerry OS, Lazaridis had this to say… “It really is the foundation of us going forward on the BlackBerry”.

As the co-CEO of Research in Motion, unless RIM isn’t looking to sell another BlackBerry device between now and the time a QNX OS based BlackBerry hits the shelves, Lazaridis really couldn’t have said much else.  If he had, much like when Microsoft announced Windows Phone 7 and their Win Mo 6.5 sales all but completely came to screeching halt, no one would buy a new BlackBerry device if they new RIM was putting all there efforts into a new OS.

Let’s just hope that BlackBerry 6 is the foundation of BlackBerry operating systems going forward for no longer than the time it takes a hardware manufacture to squeeze a dual core processor into a phone small enough to fit into my front pants pocket….  RIM needs a QNX powered BlackBerry ASAP…

Verizon BlackBerry 6 Flyer

There is a pretty good chance that a Verizon Flyer, if it hasn’t already, will hit your mailbox over the next few days that touts the benefits of BlackBerry 6.  Verizon doesn’t currently offer BlackBerry 6 on any of its devices, at least not officially, so, it is probably a pretty safe bet the the official release of BlackBerry 6 for the BlackBerry Bold 9650 and the BlackBerry Curve 3G 9330 is imminent.

BlackBerry 6 Simulators for both the 9650 and the 9330 have already been released so I am betting that we will see the actual OS releases coming within days.
