There is a bit of buzz in the BlackBerry world surrounding comments Alec Saunders, VP of Developer Relations at Research in Motion, made about RIM disabling the sideloading of apps in the the next update of the BlackBerry PlayBook.

Well, those comments actually came from an interview we did with Alec on the SMRpodcast, episode #111, last Tuesday April 3rd.

The first BBX BlackBerry will support BES after all…

Soon after we heard the first rumors of the the BlackBerry Colt, the device believed to be the first BBX BlackBerry, we heard that it would not support BlackBerry Enterprise Server (BES).

If it weren’t for the fact that I have an 8 month old BlackBerry PlayBook sitting on my desk that still doesn’t have a native email client, the mere thought of a new BlackBerry that couldn’t get corporate email via BES would have been unthinkable.  That current state of the BlackBerry PlayBook, however, made this rumor quite plausible.

Meet Alec Saunders, RIM’s new VP of Developer Relations and Ecosystem Development

Research in Motion made it public today that it has named Alec Saunders their new VP of Developer Relations and Ecosystem Development.  Mr. Saunders was interviewed over on the Inside BlackBerry Developers blog which you can read here.  He had this to say on his own blog…

Over the last few days I’ve been in San Francisco at the Mobilize conference, and speaking with developers.   It’s clear from those conversations that the primary problem we face is lack of support from application developers.  My team’s job is to correct that – to win the hearts and minds of mobile developers again.

We certainly hope that Alec Saunders and his team succeed…
