It looks like Steve Jobs was right about Flash on the mobile web after all…

We just heard word this morning that Adobe Systems has done a complete about face on its position on Flash for the mobile web as the company has (sort of) announced that it is ceasing development of Flash for mobile browsers to focus on packaging up Flash apps into stand-alone Adobe AIR applications as well as HTML 5.

Mike Lazaridis gives a 6 minute hands-on demo of the the BlackBerry PlayBook at All Things Digital’s Dive InTo Mobile Conference.  The PlayBook looks smooth, fast, and, if enough developers create engaging applications for it, like it could be a hit once its released next year.

I love how Mike just pulled his PlayBook out of his jacket pocket.  Everyone that is saying that a 7-inch tablet is just too small is flat out wrong.  My guess is that most of them will come around once Apple makes it seem like 7-inch tablets was their idea, but, I digress…  It looks like the PlayBook will eventually come in other sizes as well…

All the we can say is, “Wow…  What a difference a couple of weeks make.  What Mike Lazaridus unveiled at BlackBerry DevCon 2010, was vapor ware for all practical purposes.  What he demonstrated on stage yesterday at Adobe Air Max, clearly, was not.

We still can’t say for sure if the BlackBerry PlayBook is going to be a big hit for RIM.  They have a big road ahead of them.  We can almost assuredly say, however, that Flash on the iPad isn’t probably that far away from being a good idea as far as Steve Jobs is concerned…

BlackBerry PlayBook

Unlike with BlackBerry 6 and the release of the BlackBerry Torch, Research in Motion has just ensured that, at least a few apps are available for the BlackBerry PlayBook once the device is released.  We told you yesterday that RIM would be at Adobe Max 2010 in a big way…  Well, they are making big news while there.  RIM co-CEO, Mike Lazaridus, has announced that every developer that gets an Adobe Air for Playbook App accepted into BlackBerry App World will get a free BlackBerry PlayBook!

For you developers that just became interested (literally) in developing for the BlackBerry PlayBook, can download  the BlackBerry PlayBook SDK and simulators via the links below…

Adobe Air for BlackBerry

Today at Mobile World Congress, Adobe will announce plans to bring Adobe Air to both the BlackBerry and Android.  This is a huge deal for pretty much every smartphone platform, less Apple, because it will allow mobile application developers do develop applications once and distribute them to any smartphone supporting Adobe Flash 10.1.
