Stop Trying To Download The BBM Update… It’s Been Pulled

August 11, 2010 by Robb Dunewood 18 Comments

Update: The BBM download site appears to be working again. BlackBerry Help is says you can download BlackBerry Messenger 5.0.1.38 via the following link: http://www.blackberry.com/select/bbm/download.shtml

It looks like Research in Motion has decided that all BlackBerry users trying to download BlackBerry Messenger 5.0.1.38 simultaneously was not such a great idea after all and has temporarily pulled the update to arguably the best mobile IM client of all time.  Either this was the case, or, BBM was prematurely released.   Rumor has it that 5.0.1.38 will return, later this week, via BlackBerry App World.

What a concept! I was wondering why App World had the old version listed. It is almost like RIM did not suspect BBM was a critical app and would get large download numbers. Kinda like Apple when they release and new version of the iPhone OS.

Robb, your plan worked. You convinced the whole internet to stop trying to download BBM so that you and I could get it… 🙂

It was in App World last night, installed from there on a Storm and a Tour no problem, so I’m not sure why you are saying it wouldn’t be in App World until later in the week?

When this post was written, the latest version of BBM was not in App World.

I checked within an hour or so of your article and it was. At least in USA on Verizon.

Yes, but when it was written, it wasn’t. I updated the post once it became available.

      And try http://www.blackberry.com/facebook

Use your imagination for other RIM apps like maps, etc.
