So, What Do You Think Of Twitter For BlackBerry?

May 12, 2010 by Robb Dunewood 17 Comments

The official Twitter for BlackBerry application has been available publicly for a little while now, and, I wanted to get your take and see what you think about it.  For me, Twitter for BlackBerry has become my primary Twitter client on my device.  I am not the biggest Twitter user out there, however, I use that app every day and it works for me.

As far as BlackBerry applications developed by RIM, I would put Twitter for BlackBerry second only to BlackBerry Messenger.  That’s just one man’s opinion…  What’s yours.

Fatal Flaw. The program itself is not bad, but not being able to edit a retweet makes me have to keep both Ubertwitter and the BB app on my phone, so the BB Twitter app goes.

I love the glossy feel and polish but I HATE the inability to post longer tweets. I use this app alongside UberTwitter for this reason. There is also a case for inability to edit tweets. You certainly can do better.

I use it as my only Twitter client every day. Works good.

I love twitter, and I tried Twitter from RIM and I think it looks great and love how you can get info pushed to your mailboxes but I feel it is missing a lot yet. Granite I know it just came out and I am sure RIM is working on it, but some of these things are pretty common.

Ability to approve followers directly from the application
    Editable re-tweets
    Push support for @ mentions
    Friend picker functionality
    Mention highlighting in timeline
    Run in Background” option
Tweet count on Home Screen notification
Differentiation of user/follower tweets, RT’s, etc.

I do think if RIM would implement some of these features, people would be more likely to use the app, but right now Ubertwitter has a HUGE lead. I also think RIM is a little slow getting out an update for this, I know it has only been a short time, but right out of the box I know people have been replying when asked what they would like to see in RIM’s Twitter App.

I love it – I heard some API changed and it’s acting wonky – I clear cache and logout everyday so maybe that’s it –

Ubertwitter has 2 advantages for me. The first is that Ubertwitter allows you to have multiple accounts.
And also when you type @ it brings up a list of contacts for a quick auto-fill.
Other than that I prefer RIM’s twitter.

I installed it when it first appeared on my phone a month ago, then I noticed my battery life was starting to shorten inexplicably.

After a couple of weeks I realised the only thing that had changed was that I had installed the official Twitter app. It was essentially cutting my battery life in half and I was having to charge my 9700 every day, instead of every 3-4 days.

Changed back to Ubertwitter and it’s been fine ever since. I liked the app, it seemed a lot more polished than Uber, but I’m not about to sacrifice my battery life (not to mention the planet and my electricity bill!) for a shiny interface.

I like being able to edit my retweets. Something I am unable to do on Twitter for BlackBerry. Still like Social Scope better

Two words, it sucks! You’d think the guys that make the dag-gone phone would be able to make a killer app, but, uh, no! Yes, the replies + DMs showing up in your Message inbox is pretty sweet, but it’s slow as mo-la-sses, buggy as all heck, and reloads your replies, DMs, and profile info instead of cacheing that information in the app which would improve load times. I must say that the notifications of new mentions and such are quicker (at times) than other applications, so I sometimes run Twitter for Blackberry (in the background) as a notification of new tweets, but still use Socialscope as my main client.

Yes, Twitter for Blackberry is prettier (UI wise) than the other BB apps, but functionality is what we want, and funcationality is not what it provides.

It is slow and I get the “Twitter has encountered an error” message everytime I use it (not sure if this is a Twitter issue or the app). Other than that, it has a nice interface and works as good as the Twitter website. I love that it has a search function, unlike the Facebook app for BlackBerry.

It would be the only Twitter app I use except for a couple of flaws. First I get a constant notification that Twitter has encountered a problem and must close. I get that on no other Twitter client except Twitter4BB. Second is the inability to edit. Again this only happens on RIM’s Twitter client.
Fix these two problems and I think this would be RIM’s best app. (BBM just does not do it for me.)

I found that using this client from my Blackberry has gotten me back into Twitter. I have noticed an issue with the battery life on my phone, but I do have a number of apps running all the time that constantly update (probably a bad idea on my part).

I find its generally easy to navigate, but since I’m an organization freak I wish I could actually figure out how to add new people I’m following to the specific lists that I have set up.
Granted, I think since I don’t mind this one, it might be time for me to check out some of the other twitter clients out there before I make a commitment to this one.

Same as Mike… You can not edit a retweet in Twiiter4Blackberry so UberTwitter stay in my BB.

I constantly get notified that I have new @ replies even though I don’t. It’s incredibly annoying and because of this I am going back to UberTwitter, which is superior.

I couldn’t get it to work – I continually got the error
“The username/password combination provided is incorrect. Please try again.”
despite typing my user details exactly right.
