It would appear that Research in Motions 2012 road map will consist of a couple of new BlackBerry 7 running Curves, a new PlayBook with HSPA+, and 2 new BlackBerry 10 devices, the BlackBerry London and a full QWERTY keyboard plus touch screen addition to the BlackBerry Bold line.

Here’s what BGR had to say about it:

RIM plans to introduce two new Curve smartphones within the next few months: the BlackBerry Curve 9230 and the BlackBerry Curve 9320. The 9230 will be an EDGE smartphone and the Curve 9320 will be an HSPA device.

While we don’t have confirmation on the size, we have heard that RIM will introduce a new PlayBook tablet with 1.5GHz processor, built-in HSPA+ 42Mbps cellular data support and NFC around May or June.

RIM’s BlackBerry London is still on track for a September launch.

There is now another BlackBerry 10 smartphone in the works that will launch as part of RIM’s Bold series. The phone features a touchscreen display and QWERTY keyboard, and it is planned for a December release.

A QWERTY slider running BlackBerry 10 has been talked about for the first quarter of 2013.

This list, of course, isn’t etched in stone and there may be a few minor changes, however, this is probably a pretty good indication of what RIM will have coming out this year.

Last week shares in Research in Motion (RIMM) were up over 4% on rumors that the company hired Goldman Sachs to “explore strategic options”, a.k.a., figure out how to get someone to buy the company.

Today RIM’s stock is up over 7% (at the time of this posting) on rumors that RIM is indeed pushing for a sale to Samsung.

We have heard that Jim Balsillie is actively meeting with almost every company that might be interested in either a part or all of RIM, in addition to having talks about licensing. “Jim is going hard after Samsung,” said a source with knowledge of the negotiations. One of the reasons no deal has been struck, however, is that RIM’s co-CEOs are asking for way too much.

Whether the Samsung rumor pans out to be true or not remains to be seen. I think, however, RIM being bought for pieces and parts, or, in its entirety is one of a very few ways that the company has at making it through 2012…

One of the big knocks on Research in Motion, they have too many BlackBerry models, is also one of their biggest strengths, they have a device that’s just right for you.

Word on the street, however, is that Research in Motion has scrapped plans for both the BlackBerry Colt, the device thought to be the first BlackBerry 10 device, and, the more recently rumored BlackBerry Milan, a BlackBerry 7 device with a ‘bit of a different design identity’.

This leaves the BlackBerry London, if the rumors are true , to be the only new BlackBerry device in the works (that we know of).

A lot of people for a long time have been saying that the BlackBerry needs to become a lot more like the iPhone. I don’t think, however, a release schedule of one device per year or so is what they had in mind.

RIM putting all of its energy into a single device to make it the best BlackBerry possible doesn’t sound like a bad idea, but, I don’t know that RIM can afford to take that kind of chance when moving to a new design running a completely new operating system.

If were a betting man I’d say that the BlackBerry London is the device that RIM is putting most of their effort into, but, they probably have a another device or two that simply haven’t been leaked in the works as well.

Rumors of the 1.2 GHz, single core, QNX-powered BlackBerry Colt started making the rounds last week. The first BlackBerry superphone to run the QNX BlackBerry operating system was supposed to come out in early Q1. New reports, however, have emerged indicating that the BlackBerry Colt could makes its debut at the end of 2011.

The existence of the BlackBerry Colt is just a rumor, so, the BlackBerry Colt actually coming out in 2011 is like a rumor squared. Take it with a grain of salt.

BlackBerry 7 is set to debut on the the BlackBerry Bold 9900 as early as next week. RIM’s new BlackBerry OS, however, isn’t so much a new OS as it is an update to BlackBerry 6. The real new BlackBerry operating system is QNX, and, according to BGR, the first QNX powered BlackBerry, the BlackBerry Colt, will make its debut in Q1 2012.

Last December, RIM co-CEO Mike Lazaridis at that All Things D: Dive into Mobile conference stated that we would see QNX on a BlackBerry smartphone when dual core processors became available. The weird thing about that comment was that dual core processors in mobile phones were already a reality as the LG Optimus 2X was available for pre-order at the time of his comment and launched just days after. The weird thing today is that the BlackBerry Colt, at least for right now, is powered by a single core processor, although BGR’s source that could change by the time the BlackBerry Colt launches.

Regardless of whether the BlackBerry Colt will remain single core, or, move to a dual core chip by the time it launches brings up an interesting question… Will RIM’s new line of BlackBerry 7 smartphones be able to be upgraded to QNX? I am sure RIM will try to remain silent on this point as long as possible, but, something tells me that RIM will eventually have to answer this question sooner rather than later. Not doing so could potentially hobble BlackBerry 7 smartphone sales…

Although the network’s promising an August 16 release date, we spoke to a Vodafone representative, who confirmed to SoMobile that RIM has ‘delayed the launch’ of the Bold 9900. No exact release has yet been given, but it won’t be landing for at least ‘another 3 weeks’.

We haven’t seen any release dates for any BlackBerry 7 smartphone this side of the the pond, but, if this delay turns out to be the real deal, it looks like it will be September before we see any new BlackBerry devices…

Update: Well, that was rumor was short lived. SoMobile has posted an update on their site.

Verizon has yet to officially announce their intention to carry the BlackBerry Bold 9930 or the BlackBerry Torch 9850, but, that hasn’t stopped rumors and speculation about the BlackBerry Curve 9370 hitting Verizon’s network from spreading around the web. The latest rumor is that the BlackBerry Curve 9370 will launch on Verizon September 8th and that the lower end cousin to the BlackBerry Bold 9930 is actually 4G capable.

I don’t know about you, but, for me the date of the potential launch of the BlackBerry Curve 9370 isn’t as important as the the possibility of the device being 4G. Personally, I am very skeptical about the Curve 9370 being 4G. This would mean that the device would operate on Verizon’s LTE network, which, from what we’ve heard, the higher end BlackBerry Bold 9930 does not.
