RIM Settles SureType Patent Dispute With Eatoni…

October 11, 2007 by Robb Dunewood 1 Comment

Research in Motion and Etatoni Ergonomics have settled a patent dispute stemming back to 2005 when Eatoni brought a case claiming that that SureType, a technology which first appeared on the BlackBerry 7100 that automatically figures out which letter a user intends when pressing a button with more then one letter on it, violated patent 6,885,317.

Neither party would disclose the full terms of the deal, but they include RIM making an unspecified equity investment in Eatoni in return for a licence to use the smaller firm’s intellectual property. They will also co-operate on next-gen text prediction technologies.
